Opera Act Two
Performing in
“Un ballo in maschera,”
a Giuseppe Verdi creation,
transcendent fortune to sing
a superbly staged Opera
More than musically inspiring
a boon to my thespian education
taught to look and act menacing
a talent executed lacklusterly
Also coached to kiss and caress
a beautiful Soprano, most alluring
a skill I learned with much alacrity
and enjoyed very much rehearsing
the romantic tryst took place down stage
during the final masked ball scene
near the mark where the tragic Diva
would soon lay perishing

I love the 'inside the music' background we are privy to. It's the inside edition of GW! I bet those rehearsals were very informative and instructional, indeed.. heh heh!!
I wasn't aware you sang opera until reading your last piece and I was floored. Talk about difficult! Mastering control of your breathing, your voice... ect etc... People don't usually understand how much it takes to sing that style.
I'm impressed...
However your talent is no surprise!!

They were indeed instructive and most pleasurable rehearsals. One of the Baritone soloist was my making out and tough-guy Sensei. I was supposed to emerge from a doorway look'n scary and tough as he approached it during a solo. He kept stopping the action and saying "come on you're a big guy look meaner for threatening." Don't think I ever achieved that...I look like a dork when I try to put on a mean face.
I think there was method in the Director madness when he chose me to be the make-out guy..I was, very possibly, the only straight guy in the chorus. The same Baritone showed me how to kiss a women caressing her. My kissy face partner and I were the last chorus members to leave the stage and we essentially kissed the entire scene, Others of the chorus member whispered "get a room" as they exited.😁 And oh boy did my partner ever get into it.
Yes, breath control is a thorn in my side. It takes such concentration and frankly courage to get it right. I enjoy very much sharing these stories of my risk taking days.

Amazing. Opera. Fascinating medium. I’m always impressed not only by the amount of stamina to train your voice but the addition of learning and the pronunciation of another language through song! Inflection as well as breathing is paramount and then there’s the spitting. 😳
While I have a lot of hot air I never could channel it properly to create a lovely sound as I’m sure you can. As I piece together this wonderful peek into your musical side that you are so kindly sharing I’m wondering if you are currently singing with any opera groups?
