A Doll
If you want me to
I will be your toy
I'll cry in the pillow at night
I'll have a naïve doll look
just want me to, and i'll be there
I'll be a porcelain doll, fragile
I'll laugh out of tune
I'll always smile when you call
I'll always smile, I'm cute
I'll always dance, I'm beautiful..
If you want me to laugh, I will
Frowning-inside with a bitter taste
But say just smile and i'll smile
I'm just a doll...?
And you're gonna play, break, drop
Just play and forget, handle roughly
You leave me more broken each time
And with an apology, if you ask..
I'm just a doll... your doll...
If you ask me, I'll be your toy
There's only something you'd better know-
Know i'll never forget the hurt
And the cracks will show forever
Know even the doll can suffer!!!!!
I will be your toy
I'll cry in the pillow at night
I'll have a naïve doll look
just want me to, and i'll be there
I'll be a porcelain doll, fragile
I'll laugh out of tune
I'll always smile when you call
I'll always smile, I'm cute
I'll always dance, I'm beautiful..
If you want me to laugh, I will
Frowning-inside with a bitter taste
But say just smile and i'll smile

And you're gonna play, break, drop
Just play and forget, handle roughly
You leave me more broken each time

I'm just a doll... your doll...

Read Marge Piercy, "Barbie Doll" this piece so resembles the poem to us. We are also in a head spin when we see the guys hat love women for their beauty but treat them with the ugliest of cruelty. We wonder does the women of this beauty allowing themselves to be treated in this matter feel it equals out a wrong. Do they feel that the pain being inflicted and received balances out some moral debt that they feel they owe. Do they feel that they owe a penalty for their beauty and some unwanted attention that it may had drawn at a very early age. Do they intentionally continue to select these breakers of toys to pay that penalty. We don't know, we're just a wondering mind on a tight freaking piece

I will have to check that one out from Marge Piercy... Yes, there are so many reasons why some choose to do that; I think jealousy and control being two of the top. Allowing to be treated in this way is definitely a longer discussion too. So often it's fear of so many things... Also, the scenario is very different for an adolescent because it's not about choice. So often we cling to bad relationships for far to long and sometimes it's not easy to get out if you are living together, have shared finances, and so on. Feelings of guilt, or owing something, and so on certainly play a role too. Thank you so much for the very thoughtful comment I_IS_ME. There is a definitely a lot to that one.

Hey Ron. I am really happy you felt it was beautiful and clever, even though it's sad. Thank you so much for the comment and compliment. Love and light back at ya. :)
Re. A Doll
Damn Kristina this imaginative dark metaphoric write is brilliantly written.
First off porcelain dolls creep me out, lol. I blame it on a Twilight Zone episode many, many years ago, hahaha.
.....your use of a demure porcelain doll because of her fragility and beauty is a brilliant idea.
The fragile doll is a perfect and clever metaphor to represent what can happen in a damaging relationship.
In a blink of an eye, she can tragically be broken in many ways.
The emotional personification of the porcelain doll you portray in this dark poem is heart wrenching.
Your versatility and imagination through poetry are absolutely remarkable.

I love twilight zone... Porcelain dolls are kind of creepy, I guess that's why I like them. :) Now I need to do a Twilight Zone / Outer limits marathon and find as many creepy doll episodes as possible. Thank you so much for the compliment on the writing. I know if you appreciate the metaphors that's something. :) I think a doll is definitely the right choice for what I was trying to express. Anyway, kind of a deer in the headlights moment. Not sure what else to say other than thanks again, I really appreciate your thoughts so much as always.

The things one will endure just for those moments of feeling wanted.... this is heartbreaking.... or maybe it's beautiful because it's such a willing sacrifice.... I can't quite decide. It's probably both.
Excellent write. Thanks for making me feel and think. ❤

That is so well said regarding what one will endure. It's really sad when you have those moments but they are eclipsed by worse ones. You have a point in that ultimately it is probably both. Thank you so much for the comment and compliment, BT. I am glad it was thought provoking. ❤

Hey Relic! It's great to see you back. Some definitely do. Not to say that it can't be the other way around some times too. There are plenty of bad people in the world. Fortunately there are many good ones too. Thank you for the comment. I am glad you liked it. :)

So true that some things can never truly heal, they stay in the subconscious just lurking and tormenting. Thank you so much for the comment. I love the much love. :)

Often, dolls break, because of the mental created by others. It's not fair, but life can be bumpy. Especially over speed bumps in a slow lane called life.

Life can definitely be bumpy. Like a roller coaster you have to take the ups and downs as they come. They can definitely be unfair and cause damage but we continue anyway. Thank you so much for the comment Adagio.
Re. A Doll
Dear Kristina, this is fascinating verse, filled with subtext. I enjoy how that subtext is revealed gradually with this phrase, "Frowning-inside with a bitter taste
But say just smile and i'll smile." Although the first two stanzas and 1/2 the third seem to suggest complete submissiveness it becomes clear that the doll is unhappy and somewhat disgusted by her state. It evokes thoughts of women both past and present that are forced into unwanted marriages, usually with some old dude, that are of convenience for the parents or satisfy cultural or religious mores. That silent desperation would crack this Ken Doll.
The warning at the end is so sadly poignant. Brava, mon Jolie amie ❣️❣️
Oh and the Stepford doll image scare the hell outta me 🥺

Yes, definitely a subtext and metaphors. It is similar to this one in many ways. (even the name) https://deepundergroundpoetry.com/poems/408273-a-toy/. Yes, in this case it's not about a loving submission or BDSM. I can see why it evoke those thoughts for sure. I know you are not the subject of this one. :) Some people don't care at all but that ending is meant to hopefully remind people that they are hurting someone, sometimes permanently.
I thought she was cute. :p

Re. A Doll
Most gripping this one is ... "more broken each time" ... poetic gold ... great flow ... it has a vulnerability and a resignation ... but a confrontational tone to it ... that was perfectly crafted ... having been in a bad relationship ... this resonated with me deeply ...

I am sad it resonated but I do love gripping, poetic gold, and great flow. :) In a bad relationship there is definitely vulnerability and resignation. It's far to easy to convince yourself things will get better. Thank you so much for the comment and thoughts LDF.

There are many things left unspoken so it does not surprise you picked up on that subtle nuance. Thank you so much for the comment and compliment. I am glad you felt it was well rendered. :) Thank you for your thoughts.

It's heart aching write Kristina, knowing that subject submits to her "beloved" abuse while he doesn't appreciate what's underneath. It's tough read for some of us who may have subjected ourselves to abusive toxic relationships, but your verse here lays out many truths. How many people have hidden their pain through smiles just to keep up a facade.
Powerful and insightful spill Ms. Kristina. Thank you for sharing.

Some writes are definitely harder that is for sure. Some things I have yet to post and maybe never will. Abusive toxic relationships do so much damage especially to the person who keeps giving in order to try and make it work or someone who is in a much more vulnerable position. It can be hard keeping up a facade like that. Thank you for the comment and sharing your thoughts.
