It's not the beginning, but

end that determines friendship—
 
understanding the other
where they come from:
unhealed wounds, triggers
  defensiveness, doubt  
 
all needing more love
until recovered in trust—  
  virtually impossible
  in a virtual world;  
 
and yet, here we are  
proof-positive it can work  
 
There are no games with us
only a brutal truth  
stripping bark  
down to its tender pulp—
those insecurities that plague
a human soul  
 
Because it's not the beginning
but end that determines friendship
 
Ours is far from over yet—
I'll always have your back  
regardless of where you rest
your weary head
