May Fly Without Warning

I was sitting in my room
And a flitter and a buzz---
A large tangle of wing and leg!
A mayfly!?
It is November now. What are you doing here, Mr. Mayfly?

"I am an error, a tiny mistake,
The world has sliced itself apart,"

The sky glows a black-blue at night.
I can see the stars! Strange and very strange for a city dweller,
The resonance of the sunlight
Hitting the grass,
Has changed to match the tune
Of the airwaves that live very close
To my eardrums.
The lined sky is decadent
Like a layer cake
It is cool, it is evening,
Mild winter today
Cold autumn tomorrow,

The mayfly dies.
It was supposed to do that months ago.
He was done again, by mistake:

And died again, by method of madness...
