Invisible Scars
Sitting here in the dark
Just my demons and me
Going over all the things
I can't seem to unsee
One might just think
With so much time passed
that these unspoken scars
would finally fade to black
But it is in the black
In the dead of night
That they return like clockwork
Embracing me tight
They don't want to let go
Beginning to doubt they ever will
Because the scars you can't see
Are the scars that now define me
Just my demons and me
Going over all the things
I can't seem to unsee
One might just think
With so much time passed
that these unspoken scars
would finally fade to black
But it is in the black
In the dead of night
That they return like clockwork
Embracing me tight
They don't want to let go
Beginning to doubt they ever will
Because the scars you can't see
Are the scars that now define me

Dear W,
The dark and the invisible are handholding villains. They’re the worst. However, I can’t help but think they can’t define us because we are aware of them. Constantly having them in mind constantly not succumbing to them. Your poem is so intensely raw and relatable. I very much appreciate your candor in sharing these emotions. I find this so helpful.

good morning dearest Whiskey you know I often wonder about those scenes we replay in our minds during those quiet times and I have a few I can't reconcile...I think all we can do is forgive either ourselves or others to make the pain of it ease... I don't know just my thoughts...

Hello Crimsin,
And thanks for taking the time to stop by, read, and comment
I believe forgiving others is the easy part, for me anyway. Its those things that you have done, that no matter how many times they replay in your mind after the fact, that could have different outcomes, and realizing they should have had different outcomes, but played out the way they did because of decisions that you made ... These are the demons that are the hardest for me to reconcile, and the ones that continue to haunt my thoughts. We can just keep fighting the good fight like the warriors we are, and who knows, maybe someday there will be yet another victory.

Thank you kristina
You keep up the good fight to, and remember ... its not how many times we fall down, but how we pick ourselves up, brush it off, and tread forward that count.
