Reverse Origami
He handed me a paper butterfly
beautiful, complete -
and uncharacteristically,
I accepted it on faith
admiring its perfection
Normally it's my compulsion -
unfolding the delicate mysteries
Those crisp creases
that converge in a point
Taking away dimensions
to make things comprehensible
A path to wholeness
that I can replicate
with confidence:
reverse origami
but over and over you say
Surrender
that need for understanding
(control)
Pause the doing
and the deconstruction
just
see the beauty
of truth
and be

Oh yaaaas! This is perfect in all aspects, particularly the message! It's just beautiful and brimming with truth.
There were times when I was a photographer ( toward the end of my career ) that I began to realize that I was in such a hurry to capture that perfect sunset, making sure my aperture et al was set correctly, that I forgot to enjoy the actual sunset except through a later photograph. And while photographs are beautiful and inspiring, they are also moments past. I began to relax, and when other photographers were bustling about, I would step back and savor the moment.
This poem took me back to that, and I thank you for sharing it. xo

I've made a point of taking fewer photos, especially during family vacations, for exactly that reason. Having a half-decent camera always in our pocket isn't necessarily a good thing. (Try telling an Instagram-addicted teen that... haha!)
I have a tendency to struggle with the real beautiful mysteries of life because I'm trying so hard to make them make sense... things like love and grace and joy...

Beautiful and mindful of appreciating being in the moment and acknowledging beauty for beauty’s sake. However, if you unlock the mystery of letting go that wretched need for control, would you mind sharing it? I’ve been trying for years. Every time I think I’m out they pull me right back in! Some days I feel like I've got it.... and then I find myself trying again to deconstruct it all. I think it's an ongoing process...
