Not quite Opening Up
Soon, maybe too soon,
more shop floors will thump
to the beat of footsteps again,
and more people will be about and out
maybe even out out with pride,
but while narrow closed minds still exist,
I think I'll prefer to stay inside my own worlds;
it is distanced enough
in time and space from all society,
though there is always enough room
for a special few
and a spot for a close companion.
Though then again,
I always have plenty of obstacles and barriers and masks
to bar any who may have thought to enter...
more shop floors will thump
to the beat of footsteps again,
and more people will be about and out
maybe even out out with pride,
but while narrow closed minds still exist,
I think I'll prefer to stay inside my own worlds;
it is distanced enough
in time and space from all society,
though there is always enough room
for a special few
and a spot for a close companion.
Though then again,
I always have plenty of obstacles and barriers and masks
to bar any who may have thought to enter...

My pen is a curved sword it seems: cutting deep but only after so many turns and roundabouts!

Food thankfully hasn't got that scarce yet: though perhaps a select few as worm food could help the world move on...

I'm finding it hard to trust the re-opening of shops & such.... as for the opening of self.... there's poetry for that, I guess.
Good write, sir.

I can’t wait to go “out out”. I have only had a physical conversation with one person outside of my own Husband since March 20th.
I just wanna go to Harvester and bump into people at the salad bar like the good old days.
But yes. Most people seem to think it’s over already. More fool them.
... Until then, I dream of chicken without a face mask 😂

Familiarity breeds contempt? Though I don't think you'll be able to go "out out" if you have a Husband....
In time going out will still be crowded as ever, with enough little irritations to make you daydream about forking the fool who just jostled you in the queue.
Though more personal power to the outgoing folk, I need more inner strength to stand the world.

No, M'lord. It's not easy to open up; even when you do there'll always be somewhere where you won't let anyone in. I have my own and am there sometimes. On the flip side of the coin, yes people are going out, opening themselves to possibilities...that's living, isn't it.

I am all for opening up the walls barring the heart, but not so much for opening up to viruses and sickness. Thanks for your words; there is a value in keeping a vault for the self it seems.
