Lace Up Your Boots

Trauma
pain and suffering
 -of any kind
has to be endured
 -battled
the only way out...Is through

It doesn’t matter how you get there
as long as you remain focused
on the light at the end.
Believe in hope
and let  it carry you through

Most prefer a sturdy boat
to float across the rapids
of emotions.
Safely navigating through the currents.
Taking in the sights,
when the waters are calm.
Reading the messages
graffitied upon the walls.

Some prefer a rocketship.
Igniting the match
and blazing right through
wasting no time, taking no prisoners

I prefer to lace up my combat boots
and go in on foot
prepared for battle.
Getting my hands dirty
drudging through mud and muck
leaving no stone unturned,
scavenging for every bit
of wisdom along the way
And mending every crack
doing my best to avoid
catastrophic leaks.

If you’re still standing at the base
too fearful to take the journey
You’ll remain trapped in the past,
drowning in the pain.
But that’s no way to live

Unfortunately,
this is a journey
one must travel alone.
But be reassured,
Life is waiting
on the other side.
Pacing,
wondering where you’ve been...
eager to welcome you back
with a warm embrace.
Grateful to have you home again.

So come home...
you were never meant to suffer
for that long
alone
