Applause From Prison

Through my window
The world screams
Hand claps ringing in ears m
Applause for lost freedom
Don’t they see how dictatorships start

Ignore at your peril
Civil liberties eroded
Minorities culled before eyes
Didn’t Jews go this way too
Smiling politicians still cause deaths

Chaos’s cold dagger
Stabs eternally deep
Piercing sorrowful innocence
Stealing days and night
New prisons called home
