Lonesome Walk Blues
Lonesome Walk Blues
Texan sunset slows down time
I stroll a dry creek bed
To where water falls like mercy
On cascade of rocky dreams
Into a meeting pool where
We saw deer come to drink
A vision too evanescent for my camera
Memories surface upon arrival
Of beloved and my tread
Over ancient forests
Now wood petrified like calcified bones
My gather of wool unfolds
Of canoe dragged seven miles
With her on a visionary walk
Fueled by love’s strength
But only the twilight birds
Serenade my lonely passage
Until the windblown treetops
Welcome her home
She emerges with a wreath of wildflowers
And a smile to rival heaven’s luster
Reborn with cancer-free lungs
To breathe the fresh air of love
Texan sunset slows down time
I stroll a dry creek bed
To where water falls like mercy
On cascade of rocky dreams
Into a meeting pool where
We saw deer come to drink
A vision too evanescent for my camera
Memories surface upon arrival
Of beloved and my tread
Over ancient forests
Now wood petrified like calcified bones
My gather of wool unfolds
Of canoe dragged seven miles
With her on a visionary walk
Fueled by love’s strength
But only the twilight birds
Serenade my lonely passage
Until the windblown treetops
Welcome her home
She emerges with a wreath of wildflowers
And a smile to rival heaven’s luster
Reborn with cancer-free lungs
To breathe the fresh air of love
