Ocean Child

A novice life I live onshore,
To do what a landlubber did.
To not tell what I was before
As I hide a taste for raw squid.

Design my own cloth of seagrass
With coral and pearls I collect.
I never once mention my past,
Or let show my fins to suspect.

Extending my silvery reach
I take in the sea breezes’ rush,
Becoming a new memory
Inclining my head in a hush.

As I close my eyes and pretend
The feeling of feet on land’s end.
