The Meatgrinder
(the Art of Drill Writing and Execution)
To the men of Madison
(and that’s the last year it will be address as)
Thank you for that Majestic performance,
Thank you for that wonderful show,
Your pieces were filled with emotion and sound,
And those visuals… I just shouted wow and whoa.
I could only imagine being in the blast zone,
That brass had so much power and pizzazz,
And the battery was just simply magnificent,
More brutal than rock, blues and jazz.
You took us on an epic journey,
That spanned genres and decades,
From yesteryear all the way to today,
Moving swiftly than the other brigades.
And what caught my eye about your show,
Was the way you executed that drill,
This was the second half of the opener?
You Madison Scouts have mad skills.
How are those sustained notes possible?
Running fast in formation under the blitz,
And while the guard adds to the visual,
I’m dumbfounded by the bass splits.
The Meatgrinder
A kaleidoscope of diamond cutters twirling,
A beautiful arrange of chaos in disguise,
Designed to send the senses whirling,
As if Backlash is meant to trick our eyes.
I know your traditions are changing,
And this one felt like a farewell,
So thank you for the many memories,
I can’t wait to see what the future tells.
