A Thousand Cranes

千羽鶴
( tanka )

while I wait for spring
in honor of Myagi
I fold the first crane

reviving a spirit djinn
it sings in my small hand

🧞‍♂️

cranes made of paper
in harmony to the earth
a journey begins

as I fold and neatly tuck
snowflakes to be wishes

🧞‍♀️

quietly sightless
their cause to be as one
when it’s time to say

with these origami birds
this is what I wish to give

🧞‍♂️

and instead of spring
I wait to let fly my cranes
as winter returns

a year from my very first
each a gift, all for a wish
