Winter Poems
#winter
Winter poems about the coldest season of the year, December to February in the northern hemisphere and June to August in the southern hemisphere. Winter brings short dark days and stillness, as nature sleeps. Here you'll find poems about the beauty of the winter months, and also poems about dealing with cold and challenging weather.
Matins
How do you fare, old bosom soul,
Now that you have outworn hate
And sex and drugs and rock and roll
Are not the end all be all fate?
Now you marvel at winter air
Which tortures all the leafless twigs
In the February nightmare
Of streetlight shadow midnight sprigs.
You sigh with the wee hour sky
And admire the housecat's prowl
Or with an almanac comply,
If the weather is not foul,
To spy a distant orb or two
And mark it's progress in the night
Where gravity is not a glue
Preventing gods from taking flight...
Now that you have outworn hate
And sex and drugs and rock and roll
Are not the end all be all fate?
Now you marvel at winter air

In the February nightmare
Of streetlight shadow midnight sprigs.
You sigh with the wee hour sky
And admire the housecat's prowl
Or with an almanac comply,
If the weather is not foul,
To spy a distant orb or two
And mark it's progress in the night
Where gravity is not a glue
Preventing gods from taking flight...

In the Bleak Mid Wisdom
Two black swans on frozen lake skate
time in winter's balance held
Yama's jaws grip world in fate
snapped shut, iron grip held
A photographic pause in Aesop's grip
two tectonic plate begin to merge
dancing - motionless, yet hip-to-hip
shroud of time, our gravity's entropic surge
Barren is the land in silent roar
absence picturesque the land is scaped
static, laying naked on the floor
sheets of ice atomic - no escape
The mass of us breaks open time itself
bitter frost - our waiting in an ice
nothing seems...

perfect winters day
We walk to the markets
via the back roads
you hold my hand
winter chilled fingers
entwined with mine
and I lean my head
against your shoulder
wishing I could hold onto
this perfect winter day
warm sun on our faces
cool wind pushing us together
The markets hum with people
and music
we pass artisan market stalls
with wares we can't afford
you wonder how these small businesses
make any money
and don't envy their early morning
winter set ups
I look at them and imagine it's me ...

End
It is winter-
All of that life has died
Even the still-alive evergreens
All of the birds have flown away
The old flowers are dead;
The seeds are waiting to bloom
The air is fresh and cold
White snow clouds cover the sky
Relationships have ended
Even this darkness is beautiful
All of that life has died
Even the still-alive evergreens
All of the birds have flown away
The old flowers are dead;
The seeds are waiting to bloom
The air is fresh and cold
White snow clouds cover the sky
Relationships have ended
Even this darkness is beautiful

rocketship.
You know,
it shouldn't have been easy
for you to say
but -
you had me.
Now you've lost it.
All alone in the darkness.
Can't wish on her
comet
it'll never be coming.
She is;
crash-landed, flat bent
against
the shape of
the Earth.
She was
so
beautiful.
It's hideous,
what happened to her -
and, to "us".
It just
'is' -
well,
it just
'was'.
it shouldn't have been easy
for you to say
but -
you had me.
Now you've lost it.
All alone in the darkness.

Descent of the Sunset Dragon
dragon wings glide
beneath receding sky
buoyant menace
on unsuspecting fly
Merlins’ staff
raised to heavens
keeping soul
of descent alive
drunken eye
sinking beneath
the plane of humane
capturing the flame
of its gaze
world above framed
multitude plummit to graves
quiet furnace
hot hearth of coals
boiling belly
of flying knave
white dwarf
crescendo
illumination rising
choking volcanic force
accelerating ascent
through bottleneck
spewing forth...

Oh Moonrise...
Guide your waning, barren, and lonely globe
Over all our twinkling winter dreams
Which crackle through each dozing beasty lobe
Subject to your candlepower beams...
Screened by January's Sub-Zero haze
To dim the dazzle of heavenly glare
And with lumen flux steradian rays
Transform atmosphere into royal air,
Suitable for angels in a frolic
Among the shooting stars and planet rings
And comet orbits so parabolic
They echo the tips of dragonfly wings!
Oh, how do you so ably supervise
The reverie of your eidolon skies?

Frosting Moon
the frosting moon
glides across the sky of black ice
in the wake of dripping stars
like unearthed crystals
and planets that lay hanging
from celestial caverns
they are but the eyes
of sleepless galactical bats
chilled by timeless inversions
shaped by the deepness
of universal dispersions
eating the cake of infinity
setting coils of space to flight
with dark dimensional wings
searching for the mechanics
behind all nocturnal things
giving in to the outer coercions
and all are passed by its’...

The White Snowdrops (x3 Haiku Acrostic)
Snowdrops herald Spring
New birth, and new beginnings
Offers fresh clear hope
Wild, and wonderful
Drops of flowering soft snow
Rumour like, 'White Queens'
Once 'Naked Maidens'
Perhaps their white purity
Snow deflowered
by Jemia

Spring Equinox
Today is one of my favorite days of the year.
Today is March the 20th and Spring is here.
I'm glad that Winter is over, cold weather brings gloom.
Leaves will grow on the trees and the flowers will bloom.
If you ask me when I'll enjoy the Winter, the answer will be Never.
Today is the first day of Spring and we'll start to have warm weather.
