Winter Poems
#winter
Winter poems about the coldest season of the year, December to February in the northern hemisphere and June to August in the southern hemisphere. Winter brings short dark days and stillness, as nature sleeps. Here you'll find poems about the beauty of the winter months, and also poems about dealing with cold and challenging weather.
The Rockies
Well? Once upon a trucker's eve
and with a million miles to go
Grabbin' hard west out of Denver
and the passes were full of snow
Neither Eisenhower or Vail
were particular kind that night
Then there's galloping on tire chains
under the moon; big bulb of light
Might as well been an astronaut
as my climb plateaus near the edge
The headlights made the flakes appear
like I'm traveling through space I allege
Rosebud pucker factor 7
denim almost gnawing my seat
Bouncing up and down on air ride
my stomach and heart at...

I am lost
Life is a fire that won’t burn forever
It freezes, it fades
Hope is the curse of the individual
It dies with him
Fear is the individual’s lust for life
Paralyzing, it kills
Nature is a mother who eats her own young
Without care
Old, battered landscape, a tinge of memory fading
Soul and body falls to the ground
Remember the seasons of temperate beauty?
Stood I then amongst the falling rain
Death hides not in the summer’s warm winds
But a winter breeze can kill
Winter is a beast that tortures the strong ...

Paralyzing, it kills
Nature is a mother who eats her own young

I long for winter
Nights grow longer and the cold stronger as the world gallops towards icy times.
Sun grows weaker.
Days grow bleaker.
Era of warmth becomes a frigid clime.
Hold close to your heart memories of a living land.
Hold close to your soul the hope of warmer days.
The air grows colder and the year older as death-fearing creatures prepare themselves.
Colors grow lighter.
Leaves grow brighter as their smell beckons Winter closer.
Skies grow bluer.
Birds grow fewer.
A halting world nearly freezes in time.
Then wolf...
Sun grows weaker.
Days grow bleaker.
Era of warmth becomes a frigid clime.
Hold close to your heart memories of a living land.
Hold close to your soul the hope of warmer days.
The air grows colder and the year older as death-fearing creatures prepare themselves.

I am Earthborn
The seeds of my soul were sown in the throes of creation,
With the fabric of two woven into a distinction.
Upon a deep winter night with the howls of the surrounding season,
My heart came aflame, and spoke of bare trees and distant sun.
The winds of the storm shall howl across the land my true name,
For Earthborn I am; of Land and Sky I am made a man.
And on these deep winter nights, songs of creation echo in my heart,
For I am man; I am a force of nature -
Her!
I am Earthborn!
So here I stand; fury of winter in body of man, ...

Ode to A Cold Poe
Icy rain is reigning falling
cold is silent wind is calling
slicing sheets crawl blackened floor
sliding sideways, nothing more.
Dropping plenty, thirty, twenty
mercury is still and snore
sipping latte with Lenore.
Dead is here and never ending
leaves are falling limbs are bending
chill is cheating come inside
window shutters open wide.
Creep and creeping let me be
aching taking toe to knee
season end feels like beginning
sun is springing now defending
battle clouds come crashing, booming
settle in for...

winter love
I'm in love with this cool
winter morning
that steals my breath
and gifts me a cloud
of wonder in the pale sunlight
I'm not wearing enough clothes
and I like the way my skin
prickles at the cold
a light breeze running
a shiver down all of me
I feel so alive
under the wide blue sky
early morning sun
shining like the promise
of a day worth inhaling

that steals my breath
and gifts me a cloud
of wonder in the pale sunlight
I'm not wearing enough clothes
and I like the way my skin

James and the Seasons
As autumn's leaves, in graceful sway,
Surrender to Earth's gentle play,
They dance a waltz, a colorful delight,
'Gainst skies that burn with golden light.
Upon the bridge, James stands in awe,
Mesmerized by nature's sacred law.
Leaves twirl and flutter, painting the air,
As if whisked by angels, a heavenly prayer.
In the tapestry of falling leaves,
He feels his heart find solace and peace.
Serenity descends, a tranquil embrace,
As he gazes up at nature's ethereal grace.
But amidst the spectacle, one face he sees, ...
Surrender to Earth's gentle play,
They dance a waltz, a colorful delight,
'Gainst skies that burn with golden light.
Upon the bridge, James stands in awe,
Mesmerized by nature's sacred law.
Leaves twirl and flutter, painting the air,
As if whisked by angels, a heavenly prayer.

As he gazes up at nature's ethereal grace.

evenings in the pub
the city never looks
fairer
than in dank and dreary
weather:
indeed nothing could be better
than a hostelry in winter,
warming yourself by the fire and with the prospect of
dinner
what care I for what summer
may deliver

Somber Season
Notice her skeletal hand
As she tugs the wine soaked curtains
See her dirty nails….
…..Or what’s left of them
For they’ve been chewed to the cuticle
I think she gave up long ago
When the seasons soured, she often wonders what went wrong
The renewal of spring, the sunny kiss of summer, the crimson and carmine of autumn, and winter’s pearlescent days
She never liked the cold, it consumed what little warmth was left
But there were angels in the snow, and that was enough for her
Four seasons have dissolved into a muddy river ...

Gray Hill
It's all but
bones in the fray
a puppeteer with cut strings
Nooses and skeletons
telling stories
colors can't describe
in the heat of things
All the passion is poison rotten out of an apple born from a tree that is crooked and doesn't ever admit that it's twisting
and screaming
It's all a wolf in the bray.
A winter sky ;
Laying bare under the stars
but not sleeping.
Metal roofs slammed with thick rain.
bones in the fray
a puppeteer with cut strings
Nooses and skeletons
telling stories
colors can't describe
in the heat of things
All the passion is poison rotten out of an apple born from a tree that is crooked and doesn't ever admit that it's twisting

Metal roofs slammed with thick rain.

Get me a cold beer, or else!!
During the 1990's a severe winter storm kept temperatures in the 20's and thousands of homes in Amarillo Texas, without power for several days. It was perhaps a combination of cabin fever and alcohol that led one woman to shoot her 73 year old husband to death in the kitchen of their home. He gave her a can of warm beer. It had occurred to neither one of them to chill a six-pack on the back porch!
