Winter Poems
#winter
Winter poems about the coldest season of the year, December to February in the northern hemisphere and June to August in the southern hemisphere. Winter brings short dark days and stillness, as nature sleeps. Here you'll find poems about the beauty of the winter months, and also poems about dealing with cold and challenging weather.

I was born in the twilight of centuries,
when the sun, tired from its journey,
sinks into the golden horizon
and the moon emerges shy and silvery.
O nature, wise and ancient,
you owe me the sighs of the trees,
and the murmur of the dancing brook.
The scents of wild flowers.
You owe me the whisper of the wind
that caresses the leaves and hair.
And the embrace of the ground, firm and welcoming,
that supports my uncertain steps.

From movement and ice, you sprang
Propagated by the maelstrom
Whipping shards of jagged glass
Reflecting bleached landscapes back at you
Prints covered as soon as they are made on the trek from the summit
To the peak
As what waits there is guarded by unspeakable wrath
Cold and detached from the colors it protects
Bolstered by a families never ending push downwards
Off the peaks
Into the sea
You dive deep
Deeper than most have dared to go
Deep enough that the light is lost and the pressure forces a chill...

Make Me Warm All Over
It got so cold
that flash freeze
needs the warmth
of your parted knees
did I say pretty please?
That crisp air
got me in a shiver
I guess we haven't fully made it
through the winter
but what better reason
to make you quiver?
That calling cocoon
in glorious pink,
seems so wet and ready
for this length to sink
Oh yes, riding high
your bounce slapping against my thighs
I think we found the antidote
to conjure some warmth
and a glorious sunrise.

our little cottage
our little cottage
wading in the snow,
inside, the fireplace alive
as it breathed warmth
into our world.

Catastrophe
They never told me
That beauty is power.
That wholeness is a magnet
To the fragmented
They never told me
That I could wound you
Because of my whims
Yet you would follow
Because you believed
I could be tamed
Days and days
I spent as your Summer
Until you realised
I was winter for another
I never committed
So in my eyes
I held no real ties
And now I've
Been thrown ropes
From each direction
Each begging me
For my attention ...
That beauty is power.
That wholeness is a magnet
To the fragmented
They never told me
That I could wound you
Because of my whims

A Shocking Winter Discovery
Some
kids were
playing ice
hockey until
one of them spotted
some red coloring, took
a closer look and saw the
dead corpse of a woman who has
been slashed repeatedly and dumped
nude in the ice before he called for Dad.

these windows
these windows,
my first
defense
against an
outside world,
one that
is beautiful
but often
too cruel,
taking away
my summers,
the brightness,
the warmth,
the colorful
and leaving
in its
place,
the almost
barren nothing
of winter.

A Silent Winter
I…cavalier, casually cool...
I am the essence of my chill
As the breezes thru trees,
leaves while they spit
their ‘coloring contempt ‘
Feelin’ a freeze at thy
tempestuous breath
served in incremental doses
as I layer my earthen canvas...
Juxtaposing the lines of red,
and blue...it’s a cool reminder
for a few, that my sister's season
is quietly awaitin' her turn to assail
my atmosphere at the moment
quietly, dead...

chills
the air is bitter
with despair I light
the fire and shiver
and tell myself that
yes, it does most
certainly matter and
l do care, I care how
the wind feels

the fire and shiver
and tell myself that
yes, it does most
certainly matter and
l do care, I care how

seasons of the earth
a galactic journey
"While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and
heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not
cease."—Genesis 8:22
were there not twelve mensajes in my book
when, on that silent january morn,
the mountains bade me take a solemn look
at how the seasons of the earth were born?
the chilly winds a path made for the spring,
their passions melting in the radiant sun,
as pregnant birds and flowers on the wing
rejoiced to know the banquet had begun.
