I Watch the Night
As dawn approaches
The cold winter mountain air whispers
Everything else whether near or far is silent
Every living creature seem lost in their dreams until the break of day
The gloom of the night slowly fades away
As the dark sky begins to turn a different hue
The loneliness lurking in that stillness like a ghost
Rustles through the trees with a hum resonating through mind and time
The cold lingers with a harsh chill to the bones
While the lights from the stars languish in the distance
Soon the rest of the world will awake to...

Sorrow
As the sunlight dies
In cold empty darkness
Stillness of the grave
What the ruins remember
Through time and memory
Chambers death through the winds
Where the flame is eternal
Awakening
In cold empty darkness

What the ruins remember
Through time and memory
Chambers death through the winds
Where the flame is eternal
Awakening

green
I'm hurting in the green of you
tears sting my face
an upturned daisy seeking the sun
clouds shadow from your gaze
my petals turn inward from the cold
I seek comfort where I can
to die at winter's hands
cruel fate
my soul glazed over at the chill
the winds bellow
I saw you on the horizon
I turned away
I followed the sun, instead
where green is still beautiful
tears sting my face
an upturned daisy seeking the sun
clouds shadow from your gaze
my petals turn inward from the cold
I seek comfort where I can
to die at winter's hands
cruel fate
my soul glazed over at the chill
the winds bellow

Disarray
There is a beauty in this disarray of
winter tree limbs.
Most of us will shudder a somber sigh.
Flung upward
to the indifference of the December sky.
A few will grin at the year's demise.
Bark, nakedly aches to be dressed.
While our yearning pulls at New Years end,
to guess, our next.
My veins in disarray with a core ache to inhabit my soul's winter den.
To detangle the chaotic with tinsel and zen.
To begin is also to end.

The Curse of Grey
The curse of grey seizes
at the bone and twists a little.
It’s cold.
A season of dying
grips the heart of things
while bad memories fall with
the dead leaves.
I cry to the winter for understanding.
None comes.
Shadows fall to stonier edges,
a mood darkened.
There’s still movement underneath
and I am alive.
Such is the inhalation
of the frost.
A breath of death perhaps making
way for the reborn.
Sitting in silence
to ponder these things.
I suppose I’ll build a fire.
at the bone and twists a little.
It’s cold.
A season of dying
grips the heart of things
while bad memories fall with
the dead leaves.
I cry to the winter for understanding.
None comes.
Shadows fall to stonier edges,

There’s still movement underneath

Sitting in silence
to ponder these things.
I suppose I’ll build a fire.

First snowfall 2021
Window panes of glass
bend evening's light
transforming an espresso landscape
into snowflaked obsidian—
a phenocryst crystal, reflecting
a solitary soloist perched
on a shivering pin oak's limb
No bigger than my palm
its shrill organ penetrates
a Universe of soft silence
despite the absence
of light or warmth
'And I think to myself,
What a Wonderful World'

our little cottage
our little cottage
wading in the snow,
inside, the fireplace alive
as it breathed warmth
into our world.

WHILE IT'S COLD OUT THERE
Wave of mistletoe,
neither could say no.
While it's cold out there,
indoors we get bare.
Gratify desire
by roaring log fire,
fortified by wine
made from summer vine.
in our love so snug,
writhing on a rug,
thusting and heaving,
with heavy breathing.
Cheerful spllling seed,
satisfying need
we have to connect
that none else suspect.

Unfinished without You
Winter approaches
Autumn illustrious
Nothing better
Given the chance
To come home to you …

the things that matter...
❤️
no star
no fancy tree
but I have loved ones
all gathered cheerfully around me
no other earthly presents I will ever need
love trumps all...the most priceless gift I know
may yule
bring you
peace... hope... cheer... love most of all

A Sonnet for The Solstice
Here we are at winter's solstice
where it's tough to stay warm and dry.
Yet some things from summer I will not miss
such as the lazy bumble fly.
Or excessive auto exhaust.
Or thorns on blackberry vines.
And roadkill, by Goodyear tire embossed,
whereon that bumble fly dines.
Such scenes on hot August asphalt
make summer such a wretched thing,
like that whole humidity gestalt
with all of its hidrosis cling!
The best time on the calendar, or clocks,
is either one, or the other...equinox!

Beyond The Old Stone Bridge
I sprang forth like a Geyser, outside and up onto the mountain.i got that eager whim coming from a tweeter outside my house,a chirping call in jocund vibes cast a spell on me
From home, at dawn's dawning beam, as the sun still dozing behind the line, like an invitaton to scan and span the whole lands of the hills, passing over the old bridge, the moment stood still, time froze like a snap shot from long ago eons, black and white, as the mist with its heavy weight lays its thick cloak on the distant hills, swallowing the green pine forest like an ogre would...
