From movement and ice, you sprang
Propagated by the maelstrom
Whipping shards of jagged glass
Reflecting bleached landscapes back at you
Prints covered as soon as they are made on the trek from the summit
To the peak
As what waits there is guarded by unspeakable wrath
Cold and detached from the colors it protects
Bolstered by a families never ending push downwards
Off the peaks
Into the sea
You dive deep
Deeper than most have dared to go
Deep enough that the light is lost and the pressure forces a chill...

The Awe Of A Winter Wonderland
Unto the barren what dreams become bare by the absence of trees
Where fantasies are found in dreams as we atrial in the subconscious of our sleep
Snowcapped mountains as far as the eyes can see
Polar bears swimming in the depth of the frigid oceans just as easy as breeze
Their time of the season as human huddle under blankets for Winter’s cold hibernation
As the Artic fox roam in search of prey or be consumed by the nature victor’s starvation
Enjoy your presence upon the Earth and surround yourself with love
The blanket of the Winter season is...

Beyond The Old Stone Bridge
I sprang forth like a Geyser, outside and up onto the mountain.i got that eager whim coming from a tweeter outside my house,a chirping call in jocund vibes cast a spell on me
From home, at dawn's dawning beam, as the sun still dozing behind the line, like an invitaton to scan and span the whole lands of the hills, passing over the old bridge, the moment stood still, time froze like a snap shot from long ago eons, black and white, as the mist with its heavy weight lays its thick cloak on the distant hills, swallowing the green pine forest like an ogre would...

The solace of adversity
It has been a cold winter
I sit huddled in my blankets
Balancing whether I should use my batteries to power the radiator or save them in case the day is grey
I love the sun
I love directly relying on it
Being so directly aware of relying on it
I missed it badly while it was gone
Sunk behind the buildings on the ridge
Showing itself to me only by lighting the bare branches of the winter trees above the garden
I had to carry my batteries to the mains and beg a bucketful of...

Autumn Turning Winter
All over autumn leaves have fallen.
Mountains that were colored like stained glass,
now, from far away, are mostly gray,
the color of limbs, branches and trunks.
And here, close by, the leaves of autumn
lay brown on the ground
having become work for the rake and its owner.
The forecast is for rain, then colder weather is moving in
like the murder of crows that lives near by, but visits often
as though they were a band of bored neighborhood kids
going from house to house looking for mild mischief
or just something to do. ...

Naked Winter
The leaves of Autumn have fallen
Nature is caught up in winter's naked embrace
The winds don't sing a winter song
Instead they blow and moan
Crying the blues
While the shadows of trees
Lay down upon the season's first snow
Trees that reach their boney fingers towards the sky
A plea for mercy, in solemn prayer
The bitter wind cuts deep and nothing is as cruel
As a winter that exposes everything naked and bare
And lays a heavy burden on backs and shoulders
The sun's power has seemed to have drained away
A solitary brittle brown...

Shoveling Snow with Buddha
( after Billy Collins)
He shows up from out of nowhere,
of dazzling blue once the storm passes by.
Approaches with a smile, eyes of crescent moon,
offering a hand of strength and of mirth,
as honest labor of brotherly love.
I could be overthinking an uncommon sight
added to an otherwise common act.
Besides, there’s nothing out of place
when it comes to Winter at this time of year,
with my neighborhood inundated in white powder.
And I don’t question his abbreviated attire,

Bird Of Winter
A bird of Winter never leaves,
but remains behind
among the trees.
All the others far have flown
to winter Edens in
temperate zones.
I cannot see, but only hear,
my eyes stung with
crispest air
and whitest sky against grey limbs
twisted above
alone and slim.
The joyful bird echoes melodic notes
it's whitest wings
spread out as it floats
and lifts from one...

Someone
She was standing in my room
with no expression on her face
And no memories
that I could use to replace
she left with the door
behind her head
Crying covering her ears
from all the things
that shouldn’t have been said
All I wanted to know is
Who's the lucky someone
I think he forgot his coat
I found his love letter
I found the one you wrote
You told me I was the only one
Now I’m just someone
That you stopped caring about
Threatened to go
Left you to yourself
Went...

the chill of the season
winter shivered frosty colors
her inner calm magnified by her glory
chill composure decorated in decadence
she would not be shaken today by the sun
with a loving hand, the Earth was blanketed in her reverie
but I couldn't see the beauty today--
the fog rolled in touching my thoughts
nothing was clear as I look out at the landscape
in previous summer months, the days stood still
and I could capture each flutter of the hummingbird's wing--
as it fed on honeysuckles
I could see each pine needle--
of the wooded denizens...

Winter
The soul that sees beauty may sometimes walk alone’
-Goethe
1
The crisp top of each wave
knows Winter as it breaches the wind.
The birds shorten their bodies to it,
ruffling in the breeze where they stand
and the low Sun knows it too;
it sinks a glowing amber disk
surrounded by grey sky.
The land is patched in whitest snow
peppered in browned and grey foliage.

How do I know Winter?
She comes to me at night
in light too dim to see. ...
