thoughts on the way home
so cold
outside
and it’s fine
until it
gets inside
you
outside
and it’s fine
until it
gets inside
you

Widow Heart
Flakes of white, cold to touch
Nothing can burn you better
Nothing can hurt you worse
Than the blues when you're naked
And alone in winter, frostbitten
Nothing can burn you better
Nothing can hurt you worse
Than the blues when you're naked
And alone in winter, frostbitten

No compositions by Vivaldi
I was born in the twilight of centuries,
when the sun, tired from its journey,
sinks into the golden horizon
and the moon emerges shy and silvery.
O nature, wise and ancient,
you owe me the sighs of the trees,
and the murmur of the dancing brook.
The scents of wild flowers.
You owe me the whisper of the wind
that caresses the leaves and hair.
And the embrace of the ground, firm and welcoming,
that supports my uncertain steps.

Light
I saw the sun today
Shining bright
High in the sky
Giving the illusion
It was Summer
But it wasn't Summer
It was Winter
Along with the sunshine
Came a biting cold
That gnawed at the bones
Sending shivers
Like frozen rivers
I saw people chatting
Yet heard no words
Just teeth rattling, and chattering
A chat rat
Yet still
The sun shone
Like a tease
Promising much
Giving nothing
Like sister moon
Other than
A pleasing light

Autumn
Winter’s breath
on Autumn trees:
Silver-laced,
the golden leaves.

North Wales
A part of me
Shall forever lie
Within the sweeping valleys of North Wales
Where-in lies
Captured, and enraptured
My beating heart
The bare winter hills
Dotted with forests of evergreen
Sweeping the landscape
Like a witches broom
As ice cold winds
Freeze tears
In mid drop
Hanging like icycles
From blush red cheeks
As hair hangs
Like deep pile carpet
Thick, and warm
Ice blue eyes
Glisten, and smile
Evoking long lost memories
Of near forgotten folklore
Beating...

seasons of the earth
a galactic journey
"While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and
heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not
cease."—Genesis 8:22
were there not twelve mensajes in my book
when, on that silent january morn,
the mountains bade me take a solemn look
at how the seasons of the earth were born?
the chilly winds a path made for the spring,
their passions melting in the radiant sun,
as pregnant birds and flowers on the wing
rejoiced to know the banquet had begun.

A Sonnet for The Solstice
Here we are at winter's solstice
where it's tough to stay warm and dry.
Yet some things from summer I will not miss
such as the lazy bumble fly.
Or excessive auto exhaust.
Or thorns on blackberry vines.
And roadkill, by Goodyear tire embossed,
whereon that bumble fly dines.
Such scenes on hot August asphalt
make summer such a wretched thing,
like that whole humidity gestalt
with all of its hidrosis cling!
The best time on the calendar, or clocks,
is either one, or the other...equinox!
where it's tough to stay warm and dry.
Yet some things from summer I will not miss

From movement and ice, you sprang
Propagated by the maelstrom
Whipping shards of jagged glass
Reflecting bleached landscapes back at you
Prints covered as soon as they are made on the trek from the summit
To the peak
As what waits there is guarded by unspeakable wrath
Cold and detached from the colors it protects
Bolstered by a families never ending push downwards
Off the peaks
Into the sea
You dive deep
Deeper than most have dared to go
Deep enough that the light is lost and the pressure forces a chill...

don’t like going out of an evening
I don’t like going out of an evening
at home is all
I desire
a good book,
a large scotch and an armchair by the fire
at home is all
I desire
a good book,
a large scotch and an armchair by the fire

Ice Aged
Glowing embers
In a cooling hearth
As a cold winter wind
Begins to creep through
Cracked windows
And groaning oaken doors
Followed by the ice
Sculpturing crazy patterns
Across the glass
Like frozen snowflakes
Soon
Even time stands still
As the pendulum
Is caught
Mid swing
The ramshackle
Almost derelict cottage
Lies alone
In the midst
In a frozen desolate wasteland
Lying within the beautiful bleakness
And the loud silence
Other than the sound
Of cracking ice
And long muted...

A Winter Squall
I felt the pain
Of the sadness, of her sorrow
As she wept
A thousand tears
With a thousand pains
Pains so potent
That could wrench out the heart
And hang over her
Like a dewdrop cloud
The first of the winter storms
Had arrived
