This is, indeed, a gift for Valentine's Day, Ahavati!

The most powerful thought is the CHOOSING.  We must choose to love because only voluntary love can be genuine.  Moreover, we must love DESPITE, because that is the power of love -- that's how it becomes unconditional.

Just recompense is guaranteed, you suggest, because when we empty ourselves of goodness for the sake of others, we compel "the latter rain" to fill us back with the harvest.

I love what you said about the latter rain; it, along with rain, is so symbolic of fertilization. A seed cannot survive without them.  A harvest doesn't last forever; it's reaped until the field is empty—same with our hearts.  If the love doesn't flow out it stagnates and rots at the root: the waters become bitter.  What the do we have to offer others except bitterness?

Love must flow outward for fresh seeds, rain, and sun to propagate the soil once again.

I love the title of this because it implies that love is a choice and not just a random event that is cliche'd.  It's important to choose a Valentine wisely as someone who is worthy.  You cant love them until you love yourself first by being true to yourself.  The garden only grows if it's tended.  I like this Valentine's wisdom..
