I always remind myself that others do not like or were formally trained in classical music (such as myself) and have a different aesthetic, neither right not wrong. I believe the same is true for all the arts. Given that-your work is thought provoking. Excellent Ahvanti.

Oh, the look of exasperation on that painted lady's face ....
I know just how you feel - I get frustrated with myself if I have nothing unique to write about.
But when others write the same idea over and over again with different words, don't take the time to finesse because the poems are burning holes in their pockets and or just blast away at everyone as if they are a paper targets in a police academy shooting range - - - you just want to log off and binge watch something on Netflix.

Instructions as poetry is something I’ve been kind of getting into lately. This is really nice. Love the various comparisons of poetry to other things here. The AK, a child etc. All very evocative.

Dear A,
A valid point and request.
So, you paint as well as write? What other artistic genius have you got up your sleeve? Your painting has elements of Klimt and Chagall to me. JB sees the subject looking exasperated yet I see her looking like she’s just read something worthwhile. (I might need glasses?)
Lovely art, great write. H🌷

I could be interpreting the lady's mood through the lens of my current mood. 😑 Let's just agree that Ahavati can paint as great as she writes. 😉

Hi JB,
Yes, I saw that line. You completely captured the true meaning of the painting along side the poem. Sorry, it appears I only wrote half of the comment I wanted to say at the time. Dreadful problem with thinking too fast and writing to slow! I contrarily chose to ignore it to suit my own needs. 😈 I know, completely selfish but I was having a moment I needed it to fit the feeling. And 1000% agreed Ahavati does paint as great as she writes. 🤗. H 🌷

Dear Ahavati,
I look for deep meaning in poetry. I find meaning in your poetry. You want poetry to have deep meaning and a good form. This is what l look for in poetry. What's your opinion about rhythm? Don't you think it's essential in poetry?

I love the painting, it made me think of the dreaminess of pisces with the fish, and the soft edges of the paint lines of a transcendence.. Dreaming of more poetry must be a prediction, also a prayer to be answered :)

Of course, something will slip by sometimes.
Inconsistent punctuation. I'm so guilty.
And it can hang in a poem like food stuck between the teeth, distracting from the whole effect.
And not everything is poetry, though it could be. But then again, who am I? Ezra Pound?
Anyway, a great piece, and great artwork as well.

Excellent!
My only comment is that in the first line:
reverence and romance it;
it might be better as verb "Revere" instead of noun "reverence".
revere and romance it;
although of course, you then lose the internal rhyme

Well said. Poetry shouldn't be made into something you don't feel strongly about. It has to be made into not just a story but an emotional attachment between you and your words. The best things in life are the ones you take your time finding.

I tend to try to write about myself and others.
Struggles within and struggles from outside forces.
I am an empath so I like to let my emotions run free throughout. You are free to check them out. I have not been writing for a while. I am still learning but I feel by writing I'm not only helping myself I'm helping others.

Writing is definitely both cathartic and therapeutic for both the writer and reader, CP. I look forward to checking out your work. Perhaps you'll become inspired to write again!
Re: Re. Give me something to look forward to
18th Jan 2020 9:30pm
I mean I have not been writing for a long time. I kind of just started less than 2 years ago so I'm not an expert on structure or what goes with what. I just write what I feel and try to make the words flow well with rhythm and feeling.

This is a great place for constructive critique and reading advise, CP. It depends on the level of growth you want to obtain. There are varying members here; some want honest critique so as to improve their craft; others like writing for the pleasure of it without caring to improve or become published; others write for social purposes, and so forth.
There is no outline for what a writer must become except what he desires to become.

Re: Re. Give me something to look forward to

I'm still trying to figure that out. There is no harder thing than to find your purpose. I'm still searching. Someday I will find out what I need to do in my life and then I should feel complete. That is the hope anyway. Not everyone finds what they are looking for but that doesn't mean I shouldn't try.
1
Re: Re. Give me something to look forward to
18th Jan 2020 9:41pm
Discovering your purpose is akin to coming home—you will know beyond a doubt it is what you were meant to do. Conversely, whatever vibration you emit is matched by the Universe. That doesn't necessarily mean it will happen over night; it simply means that continuing that thought process becomes gravity to the match magnetized toward you.
Vision boards are great, particularly placed where you can see them first thing in the morning. If it's digital rather than tangible, then have it on your desk top when you log in; or the screen of your phone. This will subconsciously trigger your memory. Remember, do not ask, but thank it for arriving. Asking implies it's not arriving; gratitude implies it is.

I wrote a couple hundred poems over the course of 5 years as exercise in improving my writing skills. Then I walked away from writing altogether for 5 years - after which I realized I missed writing poetry and loved it more than any other type of writing. I couldn't live without it.
Time will tell your story.
