As Winter Ends
( after Louise Glück )
I recall in the year
once I came into season,
after the leaves all left,
in the abandon of Fall,
and the earth held its breath
from the long chill I wore.
I no longer felt alone,
not on my own, to sort out
the poetry of myself.
To recognize you only
as an atrium of airy clouds,
not within, like a pulse.
The life that began to
resurface as I rolled my grief
as thunder of lightning,
a bursting from the ice,
to announce you in the rain—
a solitary song, an ache.

I thank you most kindly, brother Stoney, for how each season seems to change in an almost human emotional way.

I'm not familiar with Gluck's work, however, your words resonate with this old rolly polly buddhakitty.

Fall is a strong metaphor for life's sunset. It is the beginning of the end or the time of metamorphosis. Everything has a rise, a set and a night. Fall is the declining of life before the winter of death. Lovely put. Thank you for sharing.

Hello and welcome to my world, Savage. Thank you for coming by for a read. And yes, your expression of how nature goes in its cycle is exactly so, and very appreciated.

Terrific economy and flow are my immediate impressions. The voice is potent and engaging, details winsome in a mildly melancholic way. Great work Jadey.

Thank you for your very positive descriptives on my humble effort, dear friend. I wish I could state that in a less pedestrian way but I’m still under the weather on meds.

What a lovely tribute Ms. Jade.
"to announce you in the rain—
a solitary song, an ache." That is a pretty stunning way to end such a wonderful piece.
Good luck in the comp.

Thank you for spelling out your thoughts like that. For me, it’s just as important to understand how my poetry communicates to the reader.
Btw, the piece is Winter as it acqueses to the oncoming of Spring.
Reading List gratitude🙏🏻

Re: Re. As Winter Ends
Well it’s as you’ve been saying lately, my friend...
You are spending time to learn and grow, to explore the expressions by other poets. Lots of people have no regard for verse because they don’t bother to find out that poetry has something for everyone if you take the time to read it at it’s many facets. Because poems have the ability to enrich the mind and take you anywhere.

I love the way "came into season" sets you up as the reader. As a previous post suggests, I read this so many ways. Nature? Personal journey? ... Then when I read the word "ache", it really reminded me of times when I first make productive changes to myself how much those first steps can hurt. I really enjoyed the imagery you provided. Thanks for sharing!

Dear Vferry, what a wonderfully invested comment you’ve given to me like a gift in your hand. You’ve given this poem a chance to reveal its tiny treasures in the snow. Always an honor a reader shows to both themselves and the scribe.
And warm greetings, and welcome to your new home here at the Deepend.
