Releasing the Light
'It is our light not our darkness
that most frightens us.'
We lit the candles of our Spirit—
not under a bushel of ancient secrets
digging as moles in sunken basements;
but, a cavernous gateway to acceptance
Trimmed the wicks of our heart
to observe Love blaze brighter
from this darkest eve of Winter
Allowed flames to alight memory—
fill our dark soul of night
with fresh perspectives in truth
Felt bygone experiences
no longer hold us back;
but, springboard our growth
We unearth peace by offering
—not obscuring—
our innermost darkness to Light
~
that most frightens us.'

Merry Christmas and a beautiful New Year to you, Marks!
How about 'cavernous' - it picks up the a assonance and consonance of s perfectly.

*cavernous* ?... *The a assonance and consonance of s*?
I do not get you, Ahavati.
...
"a {deep} gateway to acceptance... ..."
I arrived at the conclusion that *the getway is deep*.
That is what the line suggests.
I did not mean the rhyme.
OK?

LOL! I thought you were suggesting I insert the adjective! The more I thought about it, the more I agreed with that * seeming * suggestion - but, instead of deep, I opted for cavernous because it added to the assonance of a and the consonance of s throughout the verse.
That is all!
Peace!

"We unearth peace by offering
—not obscuring—
our innermost darkness to Light"
... a universal recipe for saving the world from itself - only by a transformation of the darkness can the light shine brighter. Excellent.

The bulk of this speaks to past experiences having been allowed to occupy minds like clutter in old attics ... or cellars; the junk we refused to let go of -suitcases, trunks, etc. Baggage. Time to shine a light on it, clean house and let entire neighborhoods and communities, not just individual households, be the better for it.
Lotsa wonderful K and S consonance to munch on!

I love that core idea, and feel it to be true. And yet how safe the light actually is.

You really touched on something, Jess. Light is both harsh and yet safe and warm. I have always loved the 'take-no-crap' contrast of Light. Thank you for your support! Happiest of Holidays to you and yours! xo

Dear A,
Gorgeous! The entire piece. I must say the last two stanza’s in particular are lovely by way of reminding one to let go and forgive in order to move on and live to one’s potential. Not get bogged down. So very helpful when things get clogged and prevent this happening.
Inspirational beyond measure and that photo is breath taking!

'It is our light not our darkness
that most frightens us.' Williamson??
It is a beautiful quote and a powerful uplifting poem A...in today's world most of us feel quite comfortable in the dark.

I'm unsure, Harry. Some say Williamson and some say Mandela, which is why I quoted but didn't cite an attribute.
I understand about the dark, my Friend. Particularly when so much negativity targets the light. Keep shining like the light you are regardless, my friend. 🌞❤

The light of your poem's title drew me in with my moth wings and poor sight. I wish I had something substantial to say, but please know, dear One I embrace this and honor it.
