Listen to Your Heart
Be careful of the ill-advice you’ll get from some,
They may not have your best interest in mind,
Look out for the phrase “but don’t tell anyone”
Because that surely will be a sign.
Listen to your heart first and foremost,
Deep down inside you’ll know they have no merit,
Don’t be fooled by those who say they’re your friend,
Because behind your back talk they’ll about your parents.
Always question things twice if not thrice,
People will swear to you they’re not telling lies,
Look into their eyes so that you’ll truly learn,
They’re not allies but spies in familial disguise.
If you’re old enough to know right from wrong,
Listen to your soul and you will maintain control,
Don’t be misled or fall for dubious devious tactics,
Listen to your heart and just be brave and bold.
They may not have your best interest in mind,
Look out for the phrase “but don’t tell anyone”
Because that surely will be a sign.

Love the message of this. Not enough people are lead by their hearts. It’s so important.
Thank you for sharing this.

Thank you Missy (and for the RL too).
I think deep down, no matter how young or innocent people may be, we know in our hearts right from wrong. With a little (proper) guidance we're bound to make better decisions. At least it's what I try to teach my boys.

Great work Wally. Intuition is a friend who's advice should always be considered. Speaking of 'warning bell' superlatives; my experience is that when your new employer says, "we're all just a big family here," be careful. There's a good chance your about to become a victim of incest.

Thanks Snugglebuck,
The "we're all just a big family" phrase has always sounded a little shady to me, as if trying to mask work place problems. We all know nothing is perfect and the relationship dynamics vary. Even at this age I still get burned a bit (for something I thought I said in confidence ended up being retold to me by a difference source half a state away).
I'm a little more selective with what I share now.

Excellent advice, Wally.
If only some people weren't so malleable, blindly accepting everything told to them. Perhaps in the course of their youthful rebellions establishing unique identities, they have in a way become the very thing they despise - jusgemental. Thus sliding down the range of discriminating from positive ( discerning ) to negative ( not so discerning, like stereotyping, rascism etc ).

Thanks Johnny,
Part of the comp asked "as if explaining to someone young" (paraphrasing). I thought I could only do as if explaining it to my kids. In part it resonated with me because of my own experience and situation, and although we know we can't control it, we can only approach it carefully and wisely.
But as I've learned too, everything comes back. Gotta love Karma.

Great poem, Wally. A finely tuned instinct and intuition provides short-cuts in assessing situations and people - though I've found that developing these two functions of the mind requires making many mistakes first - we then 'map' similar-sounding situations that ring the warning bell from previous experience.

Thanks Josh.
Everything we learn at home (if we were lucky enough to have good parenting and ethics) comes in handy when running into these kinds of people/situations. But when the main source are the parents, then kids are bound to take a harsh path.
Either way, our instincts do talk to us, it's just that sometimes, some don't want to listen.

Dear W,
No wonder I’m at odds. I’ve been following my gut. Heart. Should have followed my heart. Where were you when I was younger? I’d have avoided so much misery if I’d known this! Great write! Best of luck in the comp! H🌷

Thank you Honoria.
We're all bound to make mistakes and learn from them. But that's the great thing about getting older, you look back, assess the situation and become wiser for it. I still make basic mistakes when I just act on impulse and not on instinct. Control is usually the key.

Re. Listen to Your Heart
Excellent message, Wally. It is so sad that some people can act so so evil they will lie and attempt to elevate themselves by stepping on another. I was just confronted this week by a member over something untrue because "a friend" told them it was. The contrast of such evil behaviour helps you recognize the true in friendship.

Re: Re. Listen to Your Heart
I've never understood why people choose to act in certain ways without really thinking about the consequences it will have in the near (or far) future. I'm sorry you had to experience this but it certainly weeds out that individual and the circle of "friends".
I'm going through something similar but I'm taking my time to deal with it diligently.
Thank you for the RL too!
