opposite sides of the slipstream
There’s never enough time
and I feel selfish for wanting more
I pass you
you pass me
fingertips outstretched
time slips away too quickly
for me to grab your hand
and hold on to the things
that I’m missing
It feels like I’m living
and dying
in the space of each breath
I try not to think about
the gaps that can’t be filled
with silence
and wanting
and waiting
No distraction is too great
to make me forget
the physical ache of longing
knowing I can’t change
the way things have become
The universe has no care
for where and when things happen
and we are not alone in our suffering
So instead we wait for better days
when we can share the same ceiling
above our heads
hands held tightly entwined
your head on my shoulder
silently ignoring the fear
that the other will slip away again
if we dare to let go
There’s never enough time
and I feel selfish for wanting more
I pass you
you pass me
fingertips outstretched
time slips away too quickly
for me to grab your hand
and hold on to the things
that I’m missing
