Southern Vittles
!/30
Hey darlin' are ya hungry
does some breakfast sound good
coffee, fresh squeezed orange juice
buttermilk pancakes drownin' in syrup
Later on for supper
we'll have fried chicken and fried okra
black eyed peas and a mess of greens
cheesy shrimp and grits
UH UH UHNH careful of the steam
Oh uh, you must be thirsty
do ya want sweet tea over ice
or if you'd rather have a coke
whatcha want...Mtn Dew, Dr Pepper or Sprite
WAIT WAIT..you can't go yet, my feelin's will be hurt!!
NO ONE EVER leaves this table without having desert
Mmmm, slice of sweet potatoe or pecan pie
perhaps my peach cobbler a'la mode
Just taste it for me honey!
I'm sorry, I didn't mean to goad.

Loved the audio; I'm glad I could hear it along with the read because otherwise the regional accent would have had me flummoxed. :)) It was quite a culinary education. Good luck in the NaPo.

Thank you Josh! I appreciate the read and I'm glad you appreciated the audio. The idea of writing on one theme for all thirty days overwhelms me. But I'm going to start out trying to focus on Southern Things and misnomers about it. But I am the "Queen of Tangents" so we will see. My great-grandmother would get onto me for it. But she said it a little differently..."Child! You ain't never gonna git where ya goin' if you don't stop goin up all them goat trails!" She was born in 1899. Smart as could be but the vernacular was skewed. She had letters from her grandmother. Josh, it was amazing! They spelled identically to the dialect. It was almost hard to read.
*and theres your perfect example of Minxy and her goat trails (tangents). ❣

I love the way you played with this one. It gives a fantastic view of the southern dialect. And I love everything south. Well done.

I'm holding out for some skillet cornbread; biscuits and gravy; hush puppies and fired catfish..!
I really enjoyed your poem; it made me hungry.

Every single thing you listed started up in this piece but got edited out. You know your southern classics Leo!! Maybe stay and have a digestif on the swing out front?

If digestif implies corn liquor in a mason jar I'll meet you out front! : )

OMGosh! I haven't had fried Okra since the funeral of my Air Force Buddy. I attended in Georgia and after went to his mom's and OMFG there was so much food and hospitality
i am pretty sure i left in " beached whale " status!
Love the hint of humor
Love the accent (caused me to recall bittersweet - mostly sweet - memories
and loved the Southern Foods reminder.
Nicely spilled, Minxy

Ha! Excellent poem! And the video truly complemented it.
Nothing like southern hospitality and cooking. When we lived in England my aunt used to send my mother parcels filled with southern delights - grits was one ( though I never really cared for them myself ). And Lawd, ya can't forget those pinto beans!
Looking forward to more of your southern theme.

I'm going to stay with the southern theme as long as possible. But I may end up writing about silly eclectic things before it's over, lol. I am the queen of tangents so I can segway from one subject to the next effortlessly.
