That Being Said
I've heard
"It's better to die young and happy
than old and miserable"
however,
if you're (un)fortunate enough
to having been sentenced to the latter,
may as well see it through
'til the end....
perchance you'll be able to pay it forward

Lots of wisdom in paying it forward ( to those willing to accept the gift ).

Wishing more would take the high road within the last sentence.

I'm trying to grow old with new found happiness...this is deeper than you may think.

"Life is what you make of it"
Yes, an old cliché, but the reason it has become so, is for the truth within it.
Wishing you many more happy old clichés, dear poet.

If you play long enough, the House always wins...the reason it entices one with bobbles and bangles. We can only hope not to be picked clean before the end of the game.
Just trying to have some loose change when I leave.

"It takes a village to raise a child" regardless of the hues of hair and flesh.
It would please me greatly if my grandchildren or great grandchildren were to accompany you on those trips.

My friend Maegan went to a funeral today for one of her clients. She is an occupational therapist. She is more somber today than I have ever seen her. He was a world war two veteran. Must've been one of the last remaining, at this point. He gained some notoriety as an original test subject for the first bulletproof vests. He left behind a loving family and a legacy of courage and service. I suppose the value of a life lies in what you do with it, how we feel about ourselves and what impact we had on those around us. Having just eased into my 40's, I see the graying of my hair, feel the aches and pains increasing, but I have awareness I did not possess in the fury of youth and, with it, some peace.

As the years have compiled, I have come to realize anger, like hate, impacts the person displaying and those around them more so than the person or act it is directed toward. As I view the world around me and contemplate the reasons why things happen, I can no longer feel the anger that once was within. It has been replaced by a sense of deep sorrow and loss, at times to the point of tears, that now overcomes me. Sometimes I can understand the reasons behind the act and other times I am left total baffled, though I know it was the product of hate and anger.
This did not come about suddenly, only through the passage of time and thought. I know I have yet to get to the place I wish to be, but I will continue to seek inner peace coupled with a non judgmental attitude toward others.
Thank you, Daniel, for your words and story, both are deeply appreciated.

You are as always a source of deep inspiration Teri. To begin another day, and to see it through. Gathered much from your remarks in all of the comments above as well. Thank you for writing, appreciation and respect beyond words.

Hello, Audrey
Thank you for such kind words.
If you have taken away anything you found of value here or if my words only served to reinforced that which I believe you already possess, then it pleases me greatly, for it is the primary reason I write.
Be well, my friend

There's always that gap of transitional period when we are getting 'older' whatever it may mean in general terms but once we pass that passage we know, we are older.
I am more grateful than ever before of getting older, I'm calmer, collective..and less talkative, not that i ever was but I appreciate silence like nothing else...which made me wonder actually with all the discoveries of late, that is it nature's way of preparing us to that final place...?!
Needless to say, i truly appreciate this piece and absolutely understand and relate to it, thank you!

When I wrote this piece, the last line was 'tongue-in-cheek',
hence the #funny, for I was thinking "if you're miserable, here's your chance to pass it on, (yes, my sense of humor can get warped at times).
You have no idea how happy it has made me reading the comments that have ensued, all taking the high road which can also be found within the sentence for It gives me hope for the world.
I think you're on to something re; the transitional period, for I also, have found it to be a comforting time, or maybe it's just apathy, (opps, there it goes again. :-) ).
Bless you, Layla for being apart of that hope.
