Song of the Builders ( After Mary Oliver )
We are humankind, all of us
living various levels of experience—
growing consciousness as bones.
Some are fractured, broken
scarred by choice or accident—
others, solidly intact.
We do not master response
as much as approach — although
it is not the latter that generates war
but the former alone.
If I say, Strike my cheek
do it, that I may judge
how much I have built
upon the foundation of Love
by turning the other too—
or, how far I still need to go.

This is so much in the spirit of the Oliver's - the premise that there is a foundation we can create upon to improve our private universes within a shared universe. The ending yields promise that there is room to grow.
The middle is where the reader needs to pay particular attention to glean the dmessage - understand the difference between response/reaction and approach/action. Hostile behavior is always a reaction to what we perceive through the bodily senses.
And how appropriate for the "Bone" competition! ❤📝

This is really beautiful, written in the ponderous way of Mary Oliver, it really embodies her from what I've been reading so far, it has your own wise message also. I'm still walking the beach and coming up with something, I'm enjoying all the great reads along the way :)

Thank you, my Sweet friend. <3 xo
I'm happy you're resonating with these inspirations by poetic Gods and Goddesses ( in my opinion ). They give so much in the realm of love and poetry: themselves. How can we not be inspired and awestruck by them?

Has that feel-essence of 'quietly getting on with it' - an attitude that will ultimately save the world (I hope). Thank you.
(PS: if you've not come across Andy Goldsworthy, he's worth checking out as a 'builder' in Nature)

Oh, slight mis-communication. Andy Goldsworthy is a sculpture with Nature, not a poet. A lot of his work is photographed because it soon disappears under the forces of Nature. To me, he takes a poetic mind into the world of natural sculpting.

Wow! This is lovely! And, that ending!.. Mary Oliver is one of my favorites as well, and this just encapsulates her spirit entirely, but in your own pure voice.
