the confrontational mirror
my ego still sees me age thirty-five
young and beautiful
the mirror is confrontational
it argues you're forty-nine
and haven't aged well
the mirror is right
I've lived a hard life
it shows on my face
each line tells a tale
of late night drinking
of living like there is no tomorrow
I never expected there to be one after all
I always thought I would die young
I didn't...
the mirror reflects so much
of what I would like to deny
my ego can't handle the truth
so I don't take pictures
I look in the mirror with one eye closed
vanity sigh I was vain
I suppose there is some lesson to be learned
from my fall from beauty's grace
but I've yet to learn it
if we were face to face
I would still flirt with my soul
because that's where my real beauty lies
it learned to shine
when all else fell away
so today I look in the mirror
and answer you lie

We are all different than we think. Some better, some worse but don't trust a mirror for it can't see inside your heart and mind. Love self first and share that love with the world. If you don't have a brush in yout hand stay out of the freaking mirror. Nice piece

With a beautiful glowing soul, the outer shell becomes nothing more than an accessory. The mirror can't see inside. Keep your eyes beyond the mirror, my beautiful Dark Angel. To the deeper beauty. I love you...

There is a certain reality in acting locally and thinking globally....regardless.
We want humanity, and that means the opportunity to be humane, and the first person we need to feel humane towards is ourselves.
Compersion is our enjoying that others are enjoying their life experience. That is not limited by scars, age, weight, emotional states, or negative self-evaluations.
The mirror "lies" because it does not see the whole person....we need to see beneath the sheath....your context is based in a youthful exuberance that is unhampered by all those other experiences.... because each lesson you have learned is brought to the page as fresh as the moment of conception.
You may find that feeling of the Ancient Mariner, repeating your memories, but each rotation brings that sense of selflessness. This lowers suffering. That is a lesson worth sharing. You do that.
The teacher is the student who has learned how to use the lessons effectively.

"each line tells a tale
of late night drinking"
... each line also tells a deeper story behind that late night drinking, a story of a passionate and determined recovery from the past.

You're a born survivor, Brenda. The reflection is superficial, other than the soul being in your eyes. The mirror may show some age but not the experience. That is where you shine. Fine and thoughtful write, dear lady.

"I would still flirt with my soul

no, my dear, that is where your beauty always was...as for everyone...we are a projection of the mystic self into the physical plane...your soul touches all,,, as it always did...so you have always been ok....and loved...as you are so loved here now
forever

Re. the confrontational mirror
Genetics plus sure lifestyle are a factor, diet habits/excesses, upkeep-it takes a lot to hold something together now-prioritizing etc. Wow welp, sometimes we think it's our own ugliness in the mirror but its more about life looking back at us. No one is exactly as there were at 21 or 35; personally I wouldn't want to be, especially for the times we're currently living in-give me the ugly. Physicality can't always account for things, lessons and experiences that life has imprinted and for that-we will not apologize ie refraction; you, we are passing through a new or different density. Gives me a poetry idea-who knows.

The soul doesn’t age like our bodies. The aging body can’t show how beautiful a person is on the inside.
