If I Could Leave One Legacy ( after Emily Dickinson )
If I could leave one legacy
for future generations -
I would alter each destiny
with available education;
That decisions stem from facts
viably based in reason
verses illiterate frustration
in politics and religion
If I could leave one legacy
for future generations
I would introduce the poetry
of every Holy compilation
That thorough wisdom be gained
from an ancient form of art
verses inaccurate translations
manipulating the truth
~

Does that mean you'll enter if I run a comp on her? 📝☺
Actually, I enjoy her too. I've been meaning to read her latest autobiography. I'd read about it while researching something else.

Thank you, Shannon. Much appreciated. Maybe you'll venture into a classic comp soon.

I find this style exceedingly difficult to write personally. I commend you on this piece, this seems spot-on to me (admittedly I'm not the best at critique).
At any rate, beside the technical aspect, I enjoyed it :)

Thank you, AtomikOne. The classics are quite the challenge; however, so worth the effort.

Thank you, BlueBird. Nice to see you back; I hope you'll brave Emily as you did Frost!

Thank you, Timagination. Much appreciated. I agree about the dissolution of the arts in so many areas ( including the written word ). Also about misinformation.

I think this is a great description of her ideas, I was reading her bio on poetry foundation, she was so educated yet managed to hold on to her own ideas so firmly, a feat for anyone in those days especially a woman. She believed in science over classical religion, it said. I love the sober awareness that her poems exude..
Great tribute, written in her abbreviated style :)

I am over the moon that you're braving Emily, PR! Classic, as well as many modern poets, deserve so much recognition for their poetic contributions. They wrote from environmental confines while facing and attempting to overcome great emotional, psycological, and physical demons. Many, like Dickinson, braved longer years than those such as Plath and Sexton.
They are/were no different than we are with our own challenges to overcome. We can only hope that we become half the inspiration they are, and that our poetic legacy will inspire them to expand their own knowledge of the art.
Thank you for your kind words.

There in lies the crux of it all doesn’t it, education is not the panacea education plus wisdom plus a search for truth
The three fundamental platforms that should illuminate the way we think
But it’s easier to seek solace in ideological positioning than to think freely and play with ideas without being overcome by them
Religious belief is too rigid
Education without wisdom is too unfocused
Science explains facts
Wisdom helps you exercise those facts in way that is least harmful to all
A gorgeous message in this little piece
The issues in poetry are the myriad ways it can be interpreted and what lens you have on when reading it, but to me this is inspiring, uplifting and a gift to a reader seeking the nobility of their humanity.
As to the form it’s seamless and a true credit to your abilities as a writer the hardest part of form work is to make the form dissapear in the content well done

You've practically written a poem yourself, Commentonly. Those are very astute observations, as well as a very humbling comment. Thank you.
