Tension

5 days without manipulating this hair
Only to use a luxury shampoo
For breaking up the uniformity
That made these strands
Just as pliable, silkening
Enough to take over…

The unsociable parts
Of her sewing machine
As hands adjusted the tension
Soon to release
From the modest bundle
Of brooding thread
I could feel her
Adjusting
The angle of the feed
Until she put me
In reverse on the spool.
