Dreamt Last Night that I got a Big Dog
I swore off big dogs
I'm older and live in a walk up apartment
So no more big dogs
That said I love big dogs
I call those yappy lap dogs

Not Enough Dog
This was a big Labrador Retriever
Black as midnight
Goofy and strong
I need a dog to complete my story
Dogs define me
One day
Woof

I lost Ginger, my 16 year old Pointer mix 16 months ago.

I hear you, no little yappy ankle biters for me either.
Yea, I wrote an ode to our first four legged love, Antoine. Though a poodle, he was no lap lounger, a cross between a standard and toy (more standard) and loved endless games of retrieving (water or land, made no difference, just the pure joy of the chase). He graced us for 15 years, now gone some near 35 years, he still visits me in times of need. My current lady, a long haired black Lab, thinks she's a lap Lab, makes me a NEL (not enough lap) and keeps me centered as well as penned.
When the time is right, share yourself with another and they will return every ounce of love and more. Not only will he/she complete you, you will also complete them, I'm sure.

I too had a poodle as a kid who died tragically at 8. She was a miniature who was loving and a great ball chaser. Then Roxanne the cat who lived till 20, feisty as the day is long. Then Ginger, who I got one day walking up Broadway in New York City and some one was giving her away. The most stubborn dog in this planet who allowed me to laugh every single day of her glorious life, The top of her head smelled like maple syrup. Need I say more,....
