a demon's challenge

 
the night came and all was calm
poetry pressed her intentions on me
but I ignored her calling
she wanted me to write out my feelings

I went to sleep instead
in dream time I saw my book
the idea was captivating
but there was something sinister running through it
I got chilled and then scared
finally a demon appeared and said

"go write a damn poem now"

I was being challenged
told to stay in my little corner of the world
that I would never get that book down
I tried once to write my life story

it overwhelmed me with the telling
I quit it for awhile
it still sits unfinished
sigh maybe it's time I revisit it
perhaps do some healing with the revealing

the night was calm
but the devil sees me coming
he's frightened at what i'll bring
once freed from the chain I'm on
