Image for the poem I wander

I wander

in the dark I grieved
for something precious lost
knowing not what it was
my memory of this valuable item
fade into the mists

I couldn't follow to retrieve
pieces of my soul taken away
i'd given them freely
bartered my very essence
so I could rest for a moment
in the land of the forgotten

I sip from its cup
and it drank of me
taking more than I bargained

left hollow
I silently scream
"come back to me
and bring with you my dignity"

my pride washed out and diluted
its fortitude wavers
when once it stood true

these are the colors of my soul
tell me if you know where I've wandered
i'm missing
have you seen me?
