Image for the poem evergreen

evergreen

let the winds blow
and with it your voice come alive

silent for too long
inside the darkness
where there was nothing
no words to utter
no thoughts to master

just a wind with a tale
ancient and old
you listened
knowing this deity

it blew through your soul
carving deep canyons
so clear waters could wind their way through
refreshing, cooling it awakened you

from gnarled roots you drank
then the wind rustled my dying leaves
and said in a hushed tone

it's time for you to get rid of the old
your spirit will be lush and green
like it's never been

I am the wind
I am the water
I am the canyons

that wind their way through

i'm the drought that gnarled your roots
watch now as I mark you mine
making you an evergreen

a tree that casts its shade forever
