Goodbye
My heart is broken once again,
Yet I can't blame you, it was my fault in the end.
We tried to work it out; we really did,
But we were just too different; I don't know if I can even call you a friend.
Three times we've traveled down this path; how did we not learn?
I guess we both hoped for something more; but we bargained for more than we could offer and got burned.
I know that you are interested in someone else,
It hurts deep down, but the bond between us was probably false.
One minute, we're happy and loving,
The next we're cold and distant; I did not see this happening.
I hate you; then I love you,
I've got everything planned out; then suddenly I don't know what to do.
So if she makes you happy, then go with her,
I won't keep you bound to me; do whatever it is that your heart yearns.
I'm letting you go; don't ever look back!
It will be difficult, but I will always appreciate what we had.
I'm hurting now, burying all the pain down, but I will get stronger!
This is it; my world is open; for once I've got the power.
To shape my path, to alter my future,
I face life head-on like a battle-hardened soldier.
The moment has come; I look behind me with a sigh.
No matter how much it hurts, it's time to say goodbye.
Yet I can't blame you, it was my fault in the end.
We tried to work it out; we really did,
But we were just too different; I don't know if I can even call you a friend.

It was, but at the same time painful. Now I'm free from that baggage and am much happier.

Self-reflective and compassionate. I can feel the strong love and immense disappointment, but with acceptance you have already got through the pain, even though it is not easy to get rid of it all. I can relate to your feelings so much.
An excellent write Lunas! I love it!

Thanks a lot! It took some time to get over this relationship, but I came out burden-free and wiser.

There are certain truths to be found as absolutes, like what goes up must come down, unless you are not on planet earth. Matters of the heart are very rarely bound by those laws.

That's very true. Matters of the heart are quite fickle.

That awful love-hate pull of a final split, leaving cinders burning in tremulous heart. You capture it well.

It's good to channel personal experience into poems, pain is a great inspiration.

Ironically the more beautifully written poems are written based off of painful experiences.

I feel your pain mine is still quite raw
love is a two way street most are one sided
Great to see you’ve grown from this
As a one sided love is very fickle indeed. 😊

Thanks for your comment! Actually, this poem is based off of a failed relationship, not an unrequited love.

Re. Goodbye
Letting go is one of the most difficult lessons to learn in Life, yet the most liberating. I witness so much suffering around me from those who hold onto the past so hard the future doesn't stand a chance.
One never knows who one will meet up ahead, be it even with whom they separated.
Very nice work.

It's true that holding onto the past brings misery, and often blinds people to the potential of happiness in the future.

Really well done. You show the true heartache and pain that saying goodbye brings along and yet you also show some hope. Bravo.
Oh, about your comment on top of this. You can hold onto some of the past without bringing misery to yourself. Just hold onto the happy parts and drop the pain when you've finished grieving. When it doesn't hurt you it doesn't hurt to look back.
P.S.
It's nice to see another Canadian on here.

Thanks so much for your comment! Honestly, I barely think about the relationship because my mind's always occupied. The rare moments that I do, I feel rather neutral. Better than feeling anger or pain. xD
Thanks again, fellow Canadian!
