The Lady in the Photograph II - (A Sequel)
They say the camera never lies
But it doesn’t always tell the truth
Not the whole truth and nothing
But the truth so help photo it God
The camera is an inanimate object
It’s shallow noticing the surface only
It cannot capture the undertow of
That emotional turmoil and trauma
That is bubbling up down there
Human beings like onions
Have many, many layers
There is a lot going on under
The skin that the camera
Doesn’t and cannot see
The lady in the photograph
Is changing for the better
There is the beginnings of
A smile and it’s growing
She is starting to find her
Own voice, her own roar
Shaking her fist in the air
Not taking shit anymore
Finding her own two feet
Standing erect and firmly
Such a different lady
She is a becoming
A real force of nature
A beautiful butterfly
Flying into the light
The drudgery has gone
The trauma lives on
She is her own work
In progress for now
There are always some
Pitfalls along the way
And I will help smooth
Her path but she will
Be doing the hard work
I only gently support
My poet friend
My support still unwavering
As she grows in stature and
She shakes of her iron chains
Freedom is within her grasp
A new life of love and poetry
Is really just around the corner
I have total faith in her no doubts
I smile more because she does
She has much to be proud of
And as a crazy uncle so do I
Not long before she is finished
The clock is ticking, talking
I want the best for her always
So I may need to learn to let go
I can hear my heart breaking
My job now done

"Not the whole truth and nothing
But the truth so help photo it God"
...oh so witty ;) love this
"Shaking her fist in the air
Not taking shit anymore"
"Flying into the light
The drudgery has gone
The trauma lives on"
...these parts are so fierce!
This poem really draws the reader in, such a story to be told and of course - your signature twist of an ending. This is such a beautiful and beaming bright write David, but... such words have already been expressed =)
Many teddy hugs my friend!

David, this ink spoke very loudly to me...many similarities to my own circumstances...
"The camera is an inanimate object
It’s shallow noticing the surface only
It cannot capture the undertow of
That emotional turmoil and trauma
That is bubbling up down there"
~ after a while there are many who become very good at hiding it all...it's easy when the wrong eyes are staring...
This lady who you speak of is most lucky indeed...you my friend have eyes which penetrate the layers and that is such a gift to have...I know having you as my friend I feel quite blessed and grateful! Also always remember when one like you makes a commitment, the job is NEVER done....despite age and distance...and in return, continues to bless you both...
Never ending warm fuzzies sent across that damned Atlantic my friend...
xoxo Taryn

David, your words bring such beauty and life to this lady who is so hidden from casual eyes. You highlight what others are too blind to see. There is no surprise that you can see beneath the surface. You are an uncommonly sensitive friend. And as I feel incredibly blessed to have your friendship, I'm sure this lady does as well. I can imagine no circumstance where a goodbye would be on the table between you. You are a treasure in this world. Eyes are the windows...Such tight hugs to enfold your beautiful soul, my friend

Why must your job be done? Why do stories in rl end this way? Dont
Let your heart break. Be alive with fire. Please don't ever walk away. This is touching me deeply this night.
Hold her tight tonight. Let her lay on your chest and watch her sleep.

The most difficult thing to do is let go of those we've fostered in Love. And only those who Love enough can do it. Else, you don't Love them enough to let go, you live yourself more for holding on.
I wish people understood that better. Life would be less painful and bitter for many.
Beautiful tribute, David. This is why we Love; this is why we write.

aw dearest David
such a beautiful loving write
for your lovely poet friend
who with your help
& her own defiance + strength
is finding her own feet..
the ending is so selfless..
"The clock is ticking, talking
I want the best for her always
So I may need to learn to let go
I can hear my heart breaking
My job now done"
I believe your friendship
will continue to grow & blossom
evolving into something new..
beautiful..
love & hugs..
