Remains

Scarring from the acid rain
Blown by the wind
Learning to live with the pain
Knowing that he has sinned

The past has curdled in his thoughts
The days of tears and bile
He can still hear the scattered shots
At rotters in single file

He may one day see the light
Find his solemn way
The rewards may well be slight
But he still elects to stay.
