Image for the poem the path

the path

scared & alone
in the darkness
I feel my way back
to the stones
my feet once knew

fear that I may slip
& fall away into the black
never to regain composure
is something I must endure

I tread lightly
on this treacherous journey
there are devils
wicked in guile
that seek to consume
soul & spirit

silently I trek
so not to disturb
the ancient ones
& summon their wrath

they slumber now
should I stray
they will awaken
bring hell upon my head
they guide me
with well worn markers
that I find my way home

covert in nature
into winding valleys
across bridges not used in years
that are my lifelines

my mantra
live life to the fullest
leave the ghosts behind

I see the light before me
should I make it
never again
will I make darkness
my place of abode
