Loneliness
It is that solitary surviving cup
from a set decades ago
and that one occupied spot
on a long bench in the park.
It is the cold empty feeling
felt in a crowded room
or that bittersweet moment
that only you feel it's mark.
It is the silence that deafens
the happy exchange of others
or the unsaid conversations
of an unaccompanied remark.
They are the ever present
enveloping invisible cloak
and the continual companion
throughout the light and dark.

Re: Re. Loneliness
The ironic companion who is forever with someone, and really make it a crowd when their shadow is around and a part when Ego turns up. Loneliness is at least constant in its attention if not always welcomed.

And that's my style all right, I just hope you were thinking something along the lines of it being interesting or even good phrasing, and not a rubbish poem!

The opening two lines dropped into my gut and resonated the rest like ripples. It reminded me of the empty chair in Cohen's 'Dance Me to the End of Love' video.
The epitome of loneliness. Hope you've entered it into the comp.

It is not the impact but the lasting effects that mark emotion, and indigestion or something pithy like that. I was not aware of such a chair until you said about it: it does look a bit lonely or maybe it has the best seat in the house...

Maybe not, or maybe that would spoil its presence and view, and the supreme joy of having a spare seat when worn and tired.

much appreciated. As i read this i felt connected with the writer. i find that the poetry i write links my inner emotions with an untapped creativity. often i get lost so far deep in my mind i begin to feel life less. Many times i have stopped writing because i have gotten so depressed. I began to finally tap into my deepression. i learned to write about how i felt. all in all, i tried to beat my depression by writing about it. some days writing about my depression made me feel like i beat it, and at other times my depression only got worse. its been three years since i last wrote, and now i feel like i may be able to start again. Great poem.

If this poem has inspired you to write again then definitely do it, and that is definitely a mark to be treasured. You may not be physically able to dig your way out of hole, but writing is as powerful as a spade I find in this case. That mind space can be a bit of a sinkhole at times, but splurging out a few words can create a connection that means so much. Thank you for your comment and your honesty, I hope you can get out of that depressing place.
