MY MASK

MY MASK

You can’t quite put your finger on it,
but I know you find me rather bizarre
My whole persona is just a muse to try and hide my scar
Yes, I am well versed in the art of deception
It’s all a big farce just to blur your perception
I wear a mask to spare you from fright
The mask shields my past from ever coming to light
Before you get angry, you must consider my plight
I wear it out of necessity, never malice or spite
So don’t expect me to be sad or contrite..
Do you ever recognize the moment of truth in my lies?
This mask that I wear is part of my disguise
I will only look away if you try staring into my eyes
You say you don’t understand me?
Well, you didn’t come and save me when you heard my cries
The past is the past I once heard you say….
But would you still love me if you could see my flaws?
And if you could see every crack would it cause you to pause?
I’ve worn it so long sometimes myself I confuse
You shouldn’t pass judgment until you’ve walked in my shoes
It can be rather tiring trying to maintain this façade
No one has ever known me…. except maybe God
