Sin of sixpence
Christy said
he'd felt like an old balloon
with a mild case
of deflation
you know
the progression of such things
will have it
a limp spent spectacle
til a pair of lips
blow some air back into it
I told him he was lucky
to have a pair of lips handy
went home
and watered the cactus
on the off-chance
it was sick for the want of it
and I hadn't noticed

Re. Sin of sixpence
hey there Craic i'm wondering if there isn't some deeper meaning to the cactus needing water and the need of handy a pair of lips..
I like the honesty of this write immensely..
love the way you describe getting older with unflinching truth..
sick from the want of it hmm you got me pondering..
excellent..

I have no constructive advice. However, there's not enough humor in poetry and I damn near p*ssed myself laughing when I read this... and for that, I thanks ya.

Hullo, good morning
thanks. this one was looking to be written for a while. couldn't find the right words till I happened upon the three word thread. then, having written it, I changed the three words cos I didn't think they fit
you're very thanked for your presence and words. and indeed the trilogy which you have bestowed upon me
have a good day

It got me thinking that
it takes some time for a balloon to
deflate on its own
without being popped -
that, and cactus are succulent..
Very good write, I enjoyed it. :)

Ha,I feel like an ancient mariner squinting at a sea chart for sunken treasure but only finding spent balloons and pricks . Seriously thought this is a very fine piece with wonderful depth, Eamonn.

A viciously fitting comparison, E. I love how concisely and matter-of-fact you deal with some very complex truths.

Mike
how're you doing, man. I look out for you in the medical journals whenever I find myself in a doctor's waiting room.
this is the kind of stuff I enjoy. it's the stuff I don't have to think too much about. the kind of stuff I don't know I've enjoyed until it's apparent I should have enjoyed it but didn't. its better than sex ..and the same as it too
good to see you around, man. and even gooder to read your comment
thanks much, man

This is a very well-crafted piece of free verse, complete in its narrative and with strong thematic elements and images. It's humorous, and also subtly meaningful in the borderline pathetic-fallacy of the lonely cactus. Thank you for the read.

That's right lepp, never take the chance.
Always take care of your pets, if you have a cactus, water it.
I myself have a monkey, it plays up sometimes so just to be on the safe side I discipline it every night.
Just to be sure, y'know?

You seem to be a very whimsical and free spirited soul!!! Even in your criticism of poetry... (and apparently you enjoy a nice play on words) I think I rather enjoy the breath of fresh air that you bring to your work... That you just bring period 😁
