Perseid Cries With Me
Tear drops rain from the darkness of Heaven
Only to evaporate into sparks across the sky
Like the words I've bled over 36 years of emptiness
Each summer skipping stones across a lifeless pond
My record is etched with scratches in my vinyl mind
Stuck in the groove that begs for love to find me in this ditch
To hop the line repeating the verse that chants the lonesome curse
But the crack runs deep and the needle has cut through my poetry
To erase the hope a younger poet believed could never die
Now age threatens me with death if I refuse to acquiesce
And to tell the truth I see no reason not to kneel down in submission
For all the years I echoed my silent refrain just left me bitter and alone
Now finally this quill bleeds it's final ink to cry the end of my last poem
