Harness the Horse

Don't follow your dreams
Run them down
Climb on their backs
Harness their energy
Ride them to your destiny
Don't listen to voices telling you no
The way I gave them strength over me
Never achieving my hopes and goals
Nothing I have done ended the way I planned
Every single thing is a regret in my past
Failures I would not hesitate to redo
Even my poetry was guided by my stubbornness
To never give in to norms that imprisoned me in normalness
Somehow tying my hands and binding my mind
All the while fooling myself into believing I was free
Don't be like me, don't wake up old and alone
Wondering how I got into this pit of bottomlessness
But I know how it happened, I know everything too late
Well they told me "it's never too late", but tell that to fate!
Because mine is chiseled in granite to become my gravestone
"Here lies a poet who told himself lies
He lied fairy-tales until his fairy-tales died
And when his time came to give up and die
All he had left to give up was the will to survive"
And for the first time in his life he found success
For the last time in his life he felt loneliness
