REBOOT
(a gen-x sonnet)
My brain shut off this morning around three,
I can’t remember who I think I am.
I seem to think that I’m supposed to be
A someone other than this total sham.
But that is only what I think I think,
Because I can't feel anything at all.
My heart went too, and left me on the brink,
With no thing left of me I can recall.
Now even space and time have disappeared,
With me "not here" encased in total black.
If one of you, if this is not too weird,
Could throw the switch that brings both of them back.
I think I’d be forever in your debt,
But then, I might be something I regret.
My brain shut off this morning around three,

I seem to think that I’m supposed to be
A someone other than this total sham.
But that is only what I think I think,
Because I can't feel anything at all.
My heart went too, and left me on the brink,
With no thing left of me I can recall.
Now even space and time have disappeared,
With me "not here" encased in total black.
