True Halo
It's what angels wear,
this crown of thorns, to keep them
grounded to the earth
instead of wings, lifting them
out of reach from their calling.
At least, stay near me.
Trade with me your crown of storms
and your thread-bare clothes,
revealing neither boy nor girl,
to be your guardian one.
This is a Rensaku (linked Tanka), an ancient form of Eastern poetry.
