The Red Death Redux

He emerges through a barren land
Ravaged in his wake of scarlet justice
An entire country paying for its sins
He approaches the palace on All Saints' Eve
The sound of revelry rising within
He bribes the sullen guards
A few baubles, ducats for the doxies
Then ascends to the Midnight Masque
One man, the Buffoon Prince, defies him
Threatens to send him back through the gates of Hades
Trumping all compassion and common sense
But this Blowhard Prince begins to bleed
His pestilence staining the marble floor
His shriek rising to the stars
And yet, one regrets,
This is little more than a dream within a dream....
