[ Spiritual ] Dire Inspirations
Future in his mind
now before his eyes;
the pigmented brush
slips from his fingers
Dashing from studio
to thwart the inevitable
while the ugly scenario
he painted still lingers
Not a second thought given
to the other canvasses
left behind unpainted
never to be appreciated
Artist gone insanely mad
with a loaded gun in hand
lost in a world of violence
that only he created

From madness comes masterpieces, but it requires discipline unless you're Van Gogh reincarnated, and even then. I'd leave the gun out of it.
This is one of the first poems I EVER read on DUP. I even remember what I was going to say, but didn't because I was very new and too nervous.

We paint our own canvases with our thoughts when we attempt to project the future from this moment. We know this moment, that still life of flowers on the table. That scene out the Windows. That shadow across the lawn from the cypress tree. Those squirrels stockpiling.
And while we know there is more behind each scene ( including the holographic illusion ), we also know the reality from the perspective of our tangible sight.
But the future is only something that is perceived by our own conditioning, beliefs, and filters.
" Sometimes people see patterns that aren't there because when looking out at the world, they have filtered out all information to the contrary of their own beliefs. "
There's such wisdom in this.

This is the first poem I ever wrote when I realized I had things to say that would likely put readers into a coma if told in the format of a self help book. Poetry helped me get words out in the way they needed to be said. I'm proud of it because it is one of the few poems that survived relatively unscathed as everything else I wrote underwent a revision process before being posted to DUP. I might have changed or trimmed a word or two. I had only read a few poems prior to the attempt of writing my own and still after 13 yrs? for the most part remain self taught. But it was all downhill after this one until the experience of writing 150 poems for NaPo this year helped draw more water out of the same well of knowledge.
