Her Inquisition
By Enigma Rose (crowfly)
She didn't hold up to their fear and scrutiny
Torquemada flinging condemnation
The verdict rendered, written in blood
So this radiant defendant dragged by her hair
To the stake prepared on the street
The mob chanting their outrage
This martyr smiles with some sacred secret
At long last bathes in fire
Then EXPLODES!
The blast blowing away the crowd
Frying Torquemada, his remains extra crispy
And night's dark angel rises
Shining with vindication and delight
And whispering "Judge not..."
She didn't hold up to their fear and scrutiny
Torquemada flinging condemnation
The verdict rendered, written in blood
So this radiant defendant dragged by her hair
To the stake prepared on the street
The mob chanting their outrage
This martyr smiles with some sacred secret
At long last bathes in fire
Then EXPLODES!
The blast blowing away the crowd
Frying Torquemada, his remains extra crispy
And night's dark angel rises
Shining with vindication and delight
And whispering "Judge not..."

I Google references all the time. It's worth it and, yes, it's educational. I just wish I had the kind of encyclopedia mind that could catch them right off the bat. Thank you, Minerva.

Thank you, Lady Muse. This is actually inspired by a French horror film called "The Black Forest," which is almost impossible to find, and my memory of it is vague. I'm not even sure that's really how it ends. It's too bad that history can't be re-written, so that the Spanish Inquisition was made short work of by a heroine. Unfortunately that's just retroactive wishful thinking and a fairy (or witch) tale.

Yes, I'm trying to put history and horror in a fanciful setting and manipulate the outcome, producing my idea of a happy ending. Thank you, Lady Crim.

Thanks, Gabriel. I almost didn't use that "extra crispy" detail. But, what the hell, a little contemporary black comedy...

interesting fact... the spanish inquisition were legally obligated to give you thirty days notice to prepare your case... so you expected them to pitch up at your door :)
