Shadow Self
There is no beauty in me
spent cigarettes
leave nothing behind but ashes
bits of broken liquor glass
adorn my flesh
whiskey armor
cocaine eyes
look out at the world
large dilated reflecting pools
mirroring a person
who is hurting
not knowing what to do
self medicating
anything not to feel
the insanity that lies deep
vampiric substances drink from my psyche
leaving a hollow husk
the winds of karma
blowing me about
with the slightest breeze
no there is no beauty in me
I'm a shadow of who I once was
spent cigarettes
leave nothing behind but ashes
bits of broken liquor glass
adorn my flesh
whiskey armor
cocaine eyes
look out at the world
large dilated reflecting pools
mirroring a person
who is hurting
not knowing what to do
self medicating
anything not to feel
the insanity that lies deep
vampiric substances drink from my psyche
leaving a hollow husk
the winds of karma
blowing me about
with the slightest breeze
no there is no beauty in me
I'm a shadow of who I once was

Brenda, your work consistently paints the most
vivid, powerful, thought provoking introspection.
Hell-of-a-good write!
You are much more than a shadow of what was.
Your intellect and writing confirm it.
Sending love, encouragement and support,
Chad

Shadow of who you once were..the timedimension you played with your mastered darkness works out like a classic dose at the end. Ahh..the karma, the winds of them blow in utter introspective silence. Sad n dark yet a search of peace within. Tq fr this read Crim:) xx

Guh. This is so candid and vulnerable. I feel as if you've written my insides. You have truly located the beauty in darkness. My very favorite of yours so far. :)
