Sunflowers are crazed with the love of light
her stunning smile
gives fluttery butterflies
fireflies dance
in her twinkling eyes
an icon of uncommon beauty
she's like no other flower
standing tall and bold
never one to cower
her distinctive dark mystique
surrounded by a warm ethereal glow
her golden sun kissed petals
shine like a halo
Adoringly she follows her sun
seeking his bright warm light
her sunshine...only sunshine
in him she finds pure delight
luminosity worthy of her gaze
she yearns for him even at night
and while he sleep the sun
dreams of the most beautiful sight
a true vision of loveliness
and the object of all his affection
a sunflower patiently waiting
to smile in his direction

“It is so easy to be hopeful in the daytime when you can see the things you wish on.
But it was night, it stayed night. Night was striding across nothingness with the whole round world in his hands . . .
They sat in company with the others in other shanties, their eyes straining against cruel walls
and their souls asking if He meant to measure their puny might against His.
They seemed to be staring at the dark, but their eyes were watching God.”
― Zora Neale Hurston, Their Eyes Were Watching God
