Official DUP NAPOWRIMO (National Poetry Writing Month) 2017

poet Anonymous

floodgates wide open  (30th)

when starting on this NaPo adventure
I unintentionally tapped into old energies
many distant and painful memories surfaced
in my attempt to keep inspiration flowing
and words flooding my mind
I neglected to anticipate
how such an action would ultimately manifest
opening the valve was easy
I’m an emotional being
my heart filled with love
and with scars
phrases poured out
like water from a spout
channels became overloaded
pathways raw and overexposed
until it got out of control
another valuable lesson taught
never force your heart to remember
what it believes it's already healed
you might be in for more than you bargained
and you must then finish what you begin
but again I was reminded
though my mind longed to retreat
I'm tougher than I thought
opening the flow was simple
turning it off - not so much

A Matter Of Inches

CONGRATULATIONS, Mary! This is why I Love you!  You're REAL and you know what matters. You challege the mainstream opinion of three dimensional thought by demonstrating a parallel Universe of expression and existence filtering in and out through our own.

Those who have eyes to see...

Thank you for gracing us with your presence, your Words, your passion, challenging the composure of even the most demure of us Southern Belles ( phew! ), and your Honest Truth.

You're "Fucking Ladylike"! The BEST kind of Lady. ❤

And the drinks are on your host!

Signs Of The Times

Never have I spent
so much time writing poetry

Back in the days
when forums were popular
( because people tried to
have actual discussions
as opposed to lately )
my energy was reserved for
firing bullet points across the table
into the heads of my opposition
with polemics about politics and religion
sure to knock them out of their
ivory towers of partisanship

I have learned since
that it's not worth it;
being a voice of reason
to counter the insanity
comes with a hefty price tag

There's so much more to pen about
if you're willing to open yourself up
rather than limit yourself to saying
I'm the man for the job

You become like that guy
obsessed with the End Times
who's convinced he is the one
of few blessed with keen insights
into when the Rapture occurs
and is compelled to be a walking
billboard public announcement

never living in his final days on Earth

Neither will you, if you insist upon
carrying around your own sign
walking the pavement with him

By all means
write it in a poem
publish a book of poetry
on those and other
controversial subjects

Just keep moving on your feet
and not in circles around the block
ending up back where you started

CONGRATULATIONS, Ash!👏

What a job well done!  We've really enjoyed the emotional aspect and evolution of your "flood gates".  It's not easy to bleed freely on paper but you did it beautifully. Poetry has a way of teaching us temperence and balance.  But only to the poets whom it calls to. It appears you are undoubtedly one whose blood is infused with the Word.
And from here on out, it'll flow through you in New and profound ways because of your dedication and loyalty to it.

Thank you for being a vital member of Team NaPo! We hope you follow us to NaPo '18 where Host Blaze has some fun new twists to incorporate!

The drinks are on us!

CYCLE IV: AIR

Winds of Change

- and so my final offering, thank you Ahavati and Mr. Johnny for providing us the space to make the beat drop... and to all my fellow WriMo poets, if I may quote the poets - AC/DC - "Have a Drink on Me!"

CONGRATULATIONS, Hepcat61! 👏

We have been so impressed by your commitment and dedication to the Sonnet form throughout this competition! That was no easy task and elevated our respect for you as a poet immensely!

Your series was a remarkable evolutionary trek into the expansion of form and depth of metaphorical meaning. To use the word impressed seems a bit short.

Our hats are off to you and we hope you follow us to NaPo '18 where Host Blaze has some New tricks up his sleeve!

The drinks are on us! ( Jade has the limo! )

CONGRATULATIONS, Anarchitect! 👏

What an amazing testament to the power of Poetry to alter personal perception!  Its Truth is like an anchor through the Soul of any Poet who reads it.

Your contributions have been playfully underlined with moralistic considerations that extend beyond the face value of your Poetry. The multidimensional layers aren't always apparently obvious to the reader, and oftentimes dismissed.

What a shame that is for those who've failed to see the double-entendres of undercurrent that balance the visibly obvious.

It's been an "udder" pleasure.

Drinks are on your Host!

NaPoWriMo 30/30 for April 30th, 2017
Villanelle/Terzanelle/Verzanelle/Tillanelle No: 30

{ Many, many thanks to Ahavati and Johnny for hosting (and amazingly at the same time partaking in) this DUP NaPoWriMo Comp - all your hard work, and postings, are much appreciated.
And to fellow entrants whom I have done my best to follow each day, also a big thank you for the group energy and posted presence that catalysed me not to let the side down (probably just an ego thing). I look forward to continuing mutual encouragement on the regular posting pages  :)  :)  }

A DISCIPLINE OF TOMORROWS

The seeds are sown and scattered in the mind
and some of them will hit the ground and run
I’ve no idea what treasures they will find

the faithful pack their bags - the deed is done
and heading for the beach lie down to rest
though some of them will hit the ground and run

for writers softened often do their best
the moment all the pressure is released
whilst heading for the beach to take a rest …

of course it’s just a theory I have greased -
creation lives where memory is still
regardless if the pressure is released …

the turning tide drowns out my moody Will
the laughing daemon calls me to the desk
creation lives where memory is still

a grace unknown completes this honoured test
the seeds are sown and scattered in the mind
the laughing daemon calls me to the desk
with no idea what treasures I will find.

Silenced Lambs

Dear Agent Starling,

Do you really think that if you
spell it out neatly in your detailed
reports and files that those spring
lambs will ever stop their screaming?

Every monster you put behind bars

or

to death like our poor Buffalo Billy

may put you rungs higher on the ladder
in a world where all the men question
your ability to do what they consider
to be a man's job, but

I'd doubt their hesitation to
trample you on their way up
grinding heels into your knuckles
until you say, Uncle ...

... or in this case, Uncle Sam

You might save a few unfortunates
along the way from having the their
flesh flayed and sewn into a
human costume, but are you truly
comfortable in the suit you wear?

Even now, I can see you
squirming in the skin you are in
with so many eyes fondling your
fleshy parts, judging the
width of your waspy waist
dovetailed curvature of cleavage
and what it would be like to have
the monuments to their manhood
erected on the tip of your
southern drawling tongue

I fear your need for their approval
will consume you as much as you
would devour their flesh in bed

or perhaps up against a wall
in a basement storage locker where
there are no bagged and tagged
mementos of the rude people I ate

My advice is, if you are going to
take anything into your mouth
leave no trace evidence behind
as I did; swallow it whole

be deliberate with your dalliances
leave nothing to chance or they
just might accuse you of sleeping
your way to the top ten most
wanted employees of the F B  I

Until we meet again, TTFN

Yours always,

Hannibal

Figure Eights

On ice, skating
different paths intersecting
creating an endless series of figure eights

Once or twice in their gliding
coming close to colliding
on seemingly random calendar dates

Each taking time
perfecting their striding
what rhyme and reason is left to the Fates

Placed on gurneys after long journeys
resulting in the breaking of one another's legs
suddenly being faced with their potential soulmates
begs the question:

was it Accidental
or
was it Destiny

Daisies From Cats

I never got flowers
from a man
until he came along--
my gray-haired kitten-boy.

Love comes from odd places, and
I can no longer scold him
for pulling silk flowers
from my artwork,
since he left one on my pillow
next to my head
as I slept.

He waited until
I awoke, thrilled
that he'd left me a bloom
and I gave him the kiss
he expected.

How can I be angry with him
for telling me
he adores me, too,
in his own, feline way?

Your brilliant insight into the human psyche is fascinating As well As enlightening. Your role has been to connect us to those places within ourselves that we'd rather turn away from than face. Like the homeless man we cross the street to avoid. Or the woman with the baby begging in the parking lot of the mall.

Because though you may be just a character on a screen, you're also a mindset that's prevalent in today's society. One that its members need to face head-on vs avoid.

It's been a pleasure and honor writing with you.

The Wine's on Johnny.

At last the marathon is over and I seems I achieved my goal: a better grasp of inspiration. Now for a year to go by and it slip until next time? Hopefully not! It has indeed been a pleasure and a honour to be involved in this, though any mention of extra days and there will pain and suffering unthought of. In a moment of madness I idly thought about a-poem-a-day-for-a-year though that indeed would be madness. I am fairly certain each entry has at least 100 unique words, but is not 100 words spot on as too many rules would make it near impossible for me! Also, for any poem/entry that is showing up as being edited should be because of changing the title or the day and time it was entered for, because of confusion, not changing the poem itself; though that is based on my word only.

It is over now, so there is that at least.

Of all things, it is the congratulations after it is over that I am most wanting to avoid. This struggle and scrabble for inspiration hardly seems worthy of a well done without sounding a bit patronising, so if its all the same please don't. Nevermind summing up my entries will boil down to describing little more than random choices!
